Can't get my hands on a Playdate, so I guess all I can do is make a game for the Game Boy #gamedev #retro

4. Careful with procedural noise. Fog, grass, film grain, and so on. It ruins video quality for streamers and YouTubers on low bitrate. Turn it down if you want them to share your game. I learned this the hard way from a streamer's feedback. The game: store.steampowered.com/app/4845040/...

2. Basic color grading goes a long way. Light color, light strength, ambient light, and a simple color grade shader already do a lot. They set the tone of the whole game. 3. Glitters! Fireflies, embers, campfires, sparks, birds. Almost no performance cost, and the world feels alive.

Same Asset Pack, 4 Months of Figuring Out Lighting. Some lesson learned: 1. Find references. It is very hard to learn lighting from text. Find images you like and study them pixel by pixel. #godotengine #gamedev

As a book lover, I'd like to think this is my small contribution to the book culture.

- The scope of a narrative game like this is much easier to control, compared to. e.g. a strategy game. - The core game loop feels finished. Once the system is in place, expanding is easy. e.g. how big to go, what kind of stories to tell, it's all flexible.

It's a small horror game I jammed out in a week. As someone who'd never played this kind of game before, making one felt surprisingly fresh.

"The books you read reveal a lot about you". That idea was pretty much the starting point for this game. You play as a bookstore clerk, fulfilling customer's order emails, and slowly uncover their secrets. devpoga.itch.io/books-for-ba... #indiegame #horrorgame #retro #godotengine

Godot went through the exact “sponsor is bad, so money is bad” discourse a few months ago, and… nothing of note changed — other than more people were paid to fix your bug reports and improve the engine for everyone. This page was created, too:

Also gave my previous weird ocean a major overhaul. Still pure shader work, with improved water volume and more varied terrain. But without good assets it still looks a bit off... any recommendations for references to study?

Finally recovering from last week's cough. Threw what little energy I had into experimenting with procedural generation. Plan to turn each one into a full game. Started with the basics: hex grids, Poisson disk sampling, ... etc. combined with existing asset packs. #gamedev #GodotEngine #IndieGame

A #gamedev trick that once you see it. you see it everywhere: Hysteresis Whenever you need to convert analog into binary by introducing a certain threshold, it's a good idea to add a bit of hysteresis around that threshold en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hystere...

Interestingly, Steam just rewrote - but did NOT remove - its 'does your game have AI in it?' dev disclosure form. Valve's making it clearer the 'AI powered tools' (like code helpers) don't need citing - "Efficiency gains through the use of [AI powered dev tools] is not the focus of this section."
