CALL FOR PAPERS

Paper, panel, roundtable and workshop proposals are now invited for the 2027 ‘Media Industries’ conference (‘MI2027’).

Following the 2018 and 2024 editions, the ‘Media Industries’ conference returns in 2027. Continuing the rationale established with the previous conferences, MI2027 provides a meeting ground for all forms of media industries research. Proposals for papers, panels, and workshops are invited for research from across the full breadth of the media industries. To energize interdisciplinary discussions, we welcome proposals presenting research from all intellectual and methodological traditions. Additionally, to recognize the full scope and diversity of media industries, proposals may address industries in contemporary or historical contexts, and at global, transnational, national, or sub-national levels of analysis.

Proposals are welcomed in three categories (see full details below):
· open call papers
· pre-constituted panels
· pre-constituted workshops

In-person only conference, English language exclusive. Conference in partnership with multiple international scholarly networks and groups.Registration for the conference will go live in November 2026, and fees will be structured on the basis of full (academics, waged) and reduced (students, unwaged) status, but also tiered according to the delegate’s country of residence using the World Bank’s country classifications by Gross National Income per capita.

Plenty to reflect about re: the Arday affair, but I'm going to repeat this one thing. The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. I've been calling it "Trojan horse propaganda", let's go with that. 1/

A Surprising Amount of Satellite Traffic Is Unencrypted
Here's the summary: We pointed a commercial-off-the-shelf satellite dish at the sky and carried out the most comprehensive public study to date of geostationary satellite communication. A shockingly large amount of sensitive traffic is being broadcast unencrypted, including critical infrastructure, internal corporate and government communications, private citizens' voice calls and SMS, and consumer Internet traffic from in-flight wifi and mobile networks.

Trump takes credit for Mahmoud Khalil's arrest by ICE:
Following my previously signed Executive Orders, ICE proudly apprehended and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a Radical Foreign Pro-Hamas Student on the campus of Columbia University. This is the first arrest of many to come. We know there are more students at Columbia and other Universities across the Country who have engaged in pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity, and the Trump Administration will not tolerate it. Many are not students, they are paid agitators. We will find, apprehend, and deport these terrorist sympathizers from our country — never to return again. If you support terrorism, including the slaughtering of innocent men, women, and children, your presence is contrary to our national and foreign policy interests, and you are not welcome here. We expect every one of America’s Colleges and Universities to comply. Thank you!
