What is public and what is private on Bluesky?

Bluesky is a public social network.

Posts and likes are public.
Blocks are public.
Mutes are private, but mutelists are public lists. Your mutelist subscriptions are private.
Invites and invite trees are private.

Why are my posts, likes, and blocks public?

The AT Protocol, which Bluesky is built on, is designed to support public conversations. To make public conversations portable across all sorts of platforms, your data is stored in data repositories that anyone can view. This means that regardless of which server you choose to join, you’ll still be able to see posts across the whole network, and if you choose to change servers, you can easily take all of your data with you. This is what causes the user experience of Bluesky, a federated protocol, to be similar to all the other social media apps you have used before.

In all seriousness Bluesky has taught me I actually want two things in a social media app: it barely works so I can’t use it all the time, and I can scroll to the end and feel done with it. Reliability and bottomless content are features everyone was dying to implement and actually both are curses

I recently went to a bunch of coffee shops including Coffee for Sasquatch in Los Angeles. The vibes were great and I love the Sasquatch piece as you enter the space. I got their seasonal Orange Vanilla Cardamom latte. It was very cardamom forward, but I liked it.

What’s your favorite latte? One of my recent favorites was the Mascarpone Latte from Loquat in Los Angeles. It’s made with a muscavado sugar syrup and topped with a layer of house made cheese foam and cacao nibs. It was divine.

While not the cleanest looking latte, I’m continuing to learn to make my own using my espresso machine. Experimented with a shaken peanut butter latte in the jar. Added vanilla extract and a touch of brown sugar. It was good, but felt incomplete. 🧐
