“Hidden” if you’ve ignored every other scandal, act of violence, whistle blown. Horrific but sadly not “shocking” as Starmer says - it’s exactly what you’d expect based on recent evidence. Let’s see how long it takes govt and police to forget and move on this time www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I feel like this hasn’t been said loudly enough: if you want to protest and do so at the place of residence of people with no power or influence, that isn’t a protest. It’s intimidation and harassment, and inherently violent

Reckon we’re around two days from JK Rowling insisting she can’t be anti-asexual because of the existence of the asexual character, David Virgincunt, a third year Hufflepuff student.

“In 2023 in the UK, there were 6,522 stories relating to trans+ people in mainstream titles. That's almost 18 stories a day with a majority having negative framing.” Why are brands still advertising on these platforms??? www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/time...

Of course, refusing to work with extremists is much more likely to bolster, legitimise and spread their views than working with them in a way that bolsters, legitimises and spreads their views

The project, which asked autistic subjects for their saliva for reasons that definitely have nothing to do with eugenics, honest, announced yesterday that it was closing the doors to its creepy basement lab (probably) after autistics responded with a resounding “ew, stop it.”

The minds behind the now-cancelled Spectrum 10k project are really quite ticked off that their totally non-creepy plan to collect autistic DNA has been scuppered by a gang of scrappy autistics, it has...

In-work benefits are employer subsidies. Make employers pay workers enough to live on. Be honest about employer subsidies and apply your sanctions and regulations to them

If you believe a world is possible in which everyone is doing more or less ok, you’re an unrealistic dreamer. Because people are conditioned to believe that mass human suffering is inevitable, and it’s just a question of who (so just make sure it ain’t you)

People are saying the policies are more important but the reason this is so scary is it encapsulates the point we’ve reached: where the US government know they can Nazi salute without consequence, and global leaders adopt a policy of appeasement

I suppose so. The official reports I’ve seen say there are so few trans prisoners that such data is statistically insignificant, so they don’t provide it

I think Badenoch said she likes a Scrooge story. It’s almost like a book’s message can be completely lost. One of the problems is our education system is very prescriptive and doesn’t teach or encourage analytical thought. So the message you take is the one given in the curriculum

The UK courts rule on legal matters, not on the quality of medical research or reviews

Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
If the evidence pointed to blockers being unsafe I’d want people to know that. Making a thorough analysis and coming to a conclusion based on the evidence isn’t bias. There are ideologues opposed to the existence of trans people who make the research fit. And people who assess evidence objectively

It is always good to verify what you read online though. This provides a link to both the review and critiques from doctors and specialists. You can verify Cass’s proposition to remove bodily autonomy from trans adults under 25 in the review itself transactual.org.uk/advocacy/cri...

Yeah because a summary of the review by the person who wrote it won’t be partisan at all lol. My breakdown is factual and simply outlines what’s in the review. The only part Cass would probably deny is her links to anti-trans groups, but there’s public evidence of that, inc Badenoch’s comments

Yes, Tavistock was quite extreme already in delaying access to puberty blockers against global guidelines (protocol unique to the UK). There seems to have been internal struggles between ideological practitioners trying to restrict access and those leaning towards recognised best practice

Once kids got to GIDS (2-5yr wait) they were given at least a year’s assessment (depending on the assessor this cd be conversion based) before being considered for meds. The service needed reform, not shutting down with no service in place
010
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
There were big problems at the Tavistock and it needed reform to bring in line with global guidelines, research outcomes and best practice. There were claims blockers were given out too easily but the opposite was true

Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
11. It’s been condemned by prestigious medical and scientific organisations worldwide. There’s more but that’s just off the top of my head. All the research points to blockers being safe and somewhat effective in lieu of HRT
2140
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
9. Cass ignored the primary function of blockers (to suspend puberty) because she fails to understand the importance of that (maybe because she refused to speak to trans people). 10. Two recent large-scale studies (1 out before Cass, 1 after) undermine her conclusions and confirm previous findings
1130
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
8. Cass says trans people probably shouldn’t have autonomy over their own bodies until they’re 25. If the glaring prejudice here doesn’t make you distrust the entire report I don’t know what will. Remember cis people have Gillick competence from as young as 12 and certainly as adults
1161
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
7. Having thrown out all the research Cass made irrational statements as fact, suddenly unconcerned by lack of evidence. E.g. she says the fact almost all trans people on blockers go on to take hormones means blockers don’t provide thinking time! Rather than because most trans folk take HRT
1130
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
A note here: Research reviews take an overview. There are often lots of small-scale studies which taken together are compelling. Replication is vital. You don’t just throw them out because they’re small. That’s the whole point of a review - compiling and checking for replication across studies
1130
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
This is born out by the result. 5. Cass did not follow basic medical/scientific research protocols. 6. She threw out all of the research on spurious grounds (because they went against her ideology).
1160
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
1. Badenoch admitted choosing Cass for ideological reasons. 2. Cass had links to anti-trans campaign groups. 3. Cass consulted anti-trans campaign groups with no medical knowledge/background. 4. Cass refused to consult patients/stakeholders (trans youth). All this points to an ideological basis

Their concern is only for suicides that could directly be linked to the ban - so those that immediately follow prohibitive change. They don’t give a shit about those pushed to suicide 20 years later as a direct result of permanent physical changes caused now. Harder to prove a causal link you see

Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 11/12/2024
Wrong! Nothing to do with rapid withdrawal. This just highlights why politicians shouldn’t be making these decisions. You have no clue what you’re talking about. Leave it to doctors in consultation with the patients

Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 11/12/2024
This medication doesn’t have a direct psychological impact. That comes from the suspension of puberty. However, the promise of possible treatment could have a severe detrimental impact on mental health if a placebo is received instead - which is why such studies are unethical
011
Saski Stevens @saskistevens.bsky.social · 11/12/2024
A double-blind study isn’t just unethical it’s impossible. Puberty blockers are extremely effective for their primary function (suspending puberty). They want trials to study secondary (psychological) impacts but due to the effectiveness of primary function everyone would know who was on a placebo
