#Birds #Ducks Rob Crank @robcrank68.bsky.social says today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfTheMonth. My favourite for the month, is this male juvenile Blue-winged Teal. An uncommon visitor here & rather secretive. I'd been trying for several days to get a shot showing some wing colour.
A mostly brown duck swimming to the right on water reflecting gold & green. The bird has a grey bill, brown patterned back & breast. Peeking out from under the flight feathers, are a band of green, white and, powder blue.

#Birds Helen Bennett 🌿 @helenbennett.bsky.social says today's #BirdOfTheDay Alt theme: is #BirdStare Any bird captured staring right back at you! I was sitting in deep shadow. This Wilson's Snipe stopped feeding and stared a moment. Realizing I was there, it exited with great haste.
A bird with an impossibly long bill, its head turned slightly to the right, stares with the left eye at the camera. It has broad dark brown bands on its head. Its breast is heavily speckled with brown spots.

Eastern Screech-Owls can have both grey and red morph chicks in the same brood A grey parent owl can carry a hidden genetic trait for the red morph, or vice versa. When two owls mate, they each pass down one set of color genes to every chick.
