We are searching for a 3 bedroom + den (minimum) home in Vancouver. Accessibility requirements are a level entrance to the living spaces and one of the bedrooms, and a relatively quiet location & building. Please, please let me know if you have any leads for us!
My fingers hold a book in the bottom left corner. There is a very colourful illustration of a room packed with two children, an upright green cat, two beds, a toaster, table, chairs, poster, gum, napkins, plates, spoon, honey, floor lamp, wall map, bale of hay, pig, flags, cats, geese in party hats, leaning tower of Pisa, palm, the Mona Lisa, bananas, spaghetti, dalmatians, confetti, rowboat, rainbow, little red calf, and a giraffe.

The text reads
From a corner of the clutter, Tom and Lynn were heard to mutter, In voices muffled dim as doom,
"We ... need ... more ... room!"

My fingers hold the book in the bottom left corner. The cover has a picture of Joy Harjo. There is a text book overlaid with an excerpt from a poem in the collection that reads “Weaving Sundown in a Scarlet Light by Joy Harjo
@joyharjoforreal
"Perhaps the World Ends Here"
"The world begins at a kitchen table...
It is here that children are given instructions on what it means to be human...
It is a place to hide in the shadow of terror...
At this table we sing with joy, with sorrow...
We pray of suffering and remorse...
Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying, eating of the last sweet bite."

Day 7 @sealeychallenge.bsky.social “Jasmine” by Cyrus Cassells Read Pádraig Ó Tuama If you are on your patio at dusk w/ your poet grown kid jasmine in your hand and in the rainy air entangled with an Irish lilt a stone’s throw from The Drive, my doorstep to Rome, be advised this poem hits hard.
I am sitting on the patio wearing a trench coat, with my feet in rain boots up on a stool. A phone sits on my lap with text on the screen “Jasmine, by Cyrus Cassells.
These are the days of Jasmine in Rome, when headlong emboldened April has dissolved, and the joyous braiding of sun and rain brings this sweet, steady broadcast.
When I step from the suppertime train, that's what greets me. Roman hedges and walkways, graffiti-laden precincts, graced with pallid
fireworks, so even the most tumbled-down niches seem (word obscured)
Festive now with fragrance.”
Three star jasmine flowers rest in my upturned my right hand. The floor of the patio is wet with rain.

Italian Day on The Drive in Vancouver. Cultural associations serving regional foods are the heart of street festivals.
Famiglia Bagnolese banner with a Canadian flag and an Italian flag at Italian Day on The Drive street festival. There are tables with food and grills in the background. In the foreground is a box with sausage on a bun topped with grilled peppers and onions. A piece of paper on a red table reads “Schiarc’ "skeearch" in Bagnolese Di. lect]
Schiarc' or pizzette fritte [fried bread] in Italian, are small rounds of dough that are deep fried and sprinkled with either sugar, or less commonly, salt, for a savoury version.
Historically they were made with the dough that was left over after the monthly bread baking in communal wood burning ovens, and were considered a special treat! The simple ingredients of whole wheat flour, salt, water, and sourdough starter that were used in traditional bread making throughout Italy, resulted in a rustic, firmer and chewier schiarc'
As sugar was considered a luxury they were more likely to be eaten plain or salted.
With the introduction of commercial white flour and different leavening agents, today Italians enjoy pizzette fritte whenever it suits them. The addition of cinnamon and honey has also become a favourite variation of the classic recipe.
As a popular street food, the Familia Bagnolese Society is proud to serve schiarc' .......and introduce a little bit of our
culture to Vancouver!” There is a small picture of fried dough at the bottom of the page.

How much longer can those charged with protecting children claim to not know? “Long-Term Outcomes of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children up to 4.5 Years After COVID-19” Published June 10, 2026 doi.org/10.1542/peds...
doi.org
Long-Term Outcomes of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children up to 4.5 Years After COVID-19
OBJECTIVES. The risk of persistent multisystem dysfunction following multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a severe postviral complication of COVID-19, remains unknown.METHODS. We investigated long-term outcomes in patients younger than 21 years with MIS-C (n = 173) vs without MIS-C (n = 14 190) up to 4.5 years after COVID-19 in the Montefiore Health System (March 2020 to August 2024). MIS-C status was based on International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision codes and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization criteria. 1:2 propensity score matching and Cox proportional hazards regression with multivariable adjustment were performed.RESULTS. Compared with patients without, patients with MIS-C showed markedly higher risk of cardiovascular disorders (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 13.88 [4.69–41.07], P < .001), hypertension (aHR = 8.86 [4.12–19.06], P < .001), gastrointestinal disorders (aHR = 9.48 [2.66–33.71], P < .001), respiratory disorders (aHR = 3.46 [2.21–5.42], P < .001), and neurological disorders (aHR = 2.02 [1.22–3.34], P = .007). Preexisting hypertension (9.25% of patients with MIS-C vs 6.94% of controls) significantly predicted cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, and gastrointestinal outcomes. Each 1-year increase in age was associated with increased risk of shock (aHR = 1.06 [1.02–1.11]) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) (aHR = 1.06 [1.01–1.12]). Preexisting diabetes (1.73% of patients with MIS-C) was associated with a 49-fold increased risk of CKD. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed higher persistent risk in the MIS-C group across all outcomes, ranging from 6.8% for CKD to 35.2% for respiratory disorders. Sensitivity analysis using different definitions of MIS-C corroborated our main findings.CONCLUSIONS. MIS-C is associated with broad multisystem morbidity persisting years after acute COVID-19, challenging earlier reports of transient illness. Structured long-term follow-up, including routine blood pressure monitoring, neurological and mental-health screening, and cardiovascular and renal surveillance, with coordinated multidisciplinary care is warranted.

Leading airborne transmission scientists who warned the world about airborne COVID are now sounding the alarm on Andes hantavirus. In a BMJ warning, scientists urge WHO to treat Andes hantavirus as airborne by default, warning delays could repeat COVID mistakes. www.bmj.com/content/393/...
bmj.com
Hantavirus outbreak should reset WHO’s default approach to airborne risk
The multinational outbreak of Andes hantavirus (ANDV) linked to cruise ship travel should prompt the World Health Organization (WHO) to change its default response to the risk of airborne transmission of the virus. Hantavirus is a pathogen with documented person-to-person transmission and high case fatality. Therefore, the starting point should not be to downplay the risk of airborne transmission until it is definitively proven. The starting point should be the immediate adoption of precautionary measures to reduce airborne transmission, such as respirator use by healthcare workers, cases, and close contacts; ventilation optimisation; avoidance of unfiltered air recirculation; and portable HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filtration in all enclosed quarantine and transport settings. On 8 May 2026, WHO issued several documents that point in different directions. A Disease Outbreak News report acknowledged possible person-to-person transmission, but largely framed precautions around droplet and contact transmission outside aerosol generating procedures.1 By contrast, WHO’s guidance for managing contacts of Andes virus cases and disembarkation from the cruise ship adopted much more precautionary measures, including quarantine, universal respirator use during disembarkation, respirators for healthcare workers …

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 22 at 10:30 a.m., individuals known for denying the history and harms of Indian Residential Schools are planning a protest at the Indigenous Residential School History and Dialogue Centre on the UBC Vancouver campus. (This is particularly cruel).

This is not academic disagreement. It is an act of denial that causes real harm to Survivors, their families, and communities.

In response, community members are gathering not to debate, but to protect, bear witness, and care for our loved ones. A drum circle will be held as a peaceful, grounded presence. We are asking those who are able to:
• Wear an orange shirt
• Stand in solidarity
• Join the circle as peacekeepers and speakers
• Center Survivors and families in your presence
Your being there matters. Presence is a form of care. Taking a stand and speaking out is imperative in these times.
