Given his own investments in protecting perpetration, it seems unlikely that today’s outrage will lead to any meaningful government funding. And without $$ to be had, there is little reason to believe that universities will do anything to address this widespread/detrimental amount of violence.

Dr. Sara B. Chadwick @sarabchadwick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
This is also all to say, that public outrage is the only way we can hope to move the needle, though I’m feeling pessimistic even there because he who has gutted the NIH is himself a convicted rapist and hater of science, gender/sexuality research, and institutions of higher education more broadly.

THEN universities go even further & hire sexual assault researchers/develop new initiatives because those actions will help the U get bigger grants. Even so, I know many colleagues who feel those efforts are superficial, as real, substantive action is still often a bad business strategy.

Dr. Sara B. Chadwick @sarabchadwick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Those are also often the times when maybe the government has responded by providing increased grant fund towards sexual assault prevention initiatives. Which of course also perks universities up because then there is grant funding to be had (I.e., opportunities for $$).

The only times this has even kind of shifted is in the wake of major social discourse expressing outrage and demanding action. That is when universities worry that doing nothing & the subsequent reputation loss could become more costly than doing something.

Taking care of survivors & other actions to prevent future sexual assaults, etc., does not stand to make universities money, especially in the current anti-woke landscape. Sexual assault survivors are not seen as future leaders or donors with a potential for a high ROI.

Banning frats, expelling perpetrators, and implementing real accountability potentially means major tuition & future donor loss, esp if being known as a fun party campus leads to more enrollments than being known as a safe, responsible campus.

My jaded take of the day is that I’ve been thinking a lot about how Universities will not be motivated to address sexual assault issues unless it stands to make them money and/or unless NOT doing anything means they will lose money.

More sexual coercion from a partner was associated with significantly lower sexual desire among cis & gender/sex minority women, & the strength increased with relationship length. Findings were cross-sectional, but other data we have (coming soon 🤞🏻) show similar findings longitudinally!

News outlets have reported over the past year that the U.S. birth rate has hit an all-time low. However, there are different ways to measure fertility, and some of these methods tell a different story.
image comparing three charts mapping the fertility in the U.S. according to three different measures using data from 1974 to 2024.

Text reads: U.S. fertility hit an all-time low in 2024, according to 2 of 3 measures.
General fertility rate, number of births per 1,000 women ages 15-44
Total fertility rate, Hypothetical children ever born based on current rates
Children ever born, on average, among women ages 40-44.

Now out in Behavior Genetics: I track how fringe researchers weaponize preprint servers to disseminate pseudoscientific studies that advance scientific racism and eugenics links.springernature.com/f/a/Y0XN-XcL...

The Preprint Problem: Fringe, Genetically Informed Studies of Group Differences in Behavior Housed on Open Science Platforms - Behavior Genetics
Preprint servers and open science platforms have revolutionized the scientific process. A fundamental feature of these platforms is a lack of peer review—virtually anyone with an internet connection can upload their research in a few clicks. Although this setup has facilitated rapid dissemination of results and open access to research, it has also enabled fringe researchers to post and share pseudoscientific, genetically informed studies of differences in behavior that often advance racial hereditarian and eugenic claims. Because preprint archives are now routinely used by mainstream academics, preprints grant a degree of legitimacy to fringe research that otherwise may have been relegated to a blog post or fringe publication. Previous studies have documented individual examples of pseudoscientific, genetic studies of group differences being posted on preprint archives, but the scope of this problem remains unclear, making it difficult to formulate responses and potential solutions. The present study quantified and characterized pseudoscientific studies of group differences in behavior—including studies that used genetic methods—housed on popular preprint servers and open science collaboration platforms. Dozens of such preprints were identified. Preprinted studies on group differences often analyzed controversial phenotypes, most frequently intelligence and related traits, and furthered classical, widely rejected hereditarian and eugenic theories. Genetically informed analyses rested on fundamentally flawed assumptions about heritability and polygenic scores. The Preprint Problem is indicative of a broader effort to weaponize mainstream academic research and its mechanisms, including Open Science, and a recent resurgence of scientific racism and eugenics. Potential responses to these challenges are introduced.

Trevor Project released its annual LGBTQ youth mental health report. The results are shocking. 40% of trans youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Trans youth who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
Key findings from The 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People include:

36% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including 40% of transgender and nonbinary young people.
1 in 10 LGBTQ+ young people attempted suicide in the past year.
44% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it.
90% of LGBTQ+ young people said recent anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies and debates caused them stress or anxiety.
LGBTQ+ young people of color attempted suicide at higher rates than their White peers, and nearly a third (32%) also experienced racial or ethnic discrimination, in addition to anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination.
Transgender and nonbinary young people who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
Over half (59%) of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 experienced bullying in the past year, and those who did reported significantly higher rates of attempting suicide in the past year than their peers.
LGBTQ+ young people who reported living in very accepting communities attempted suicide at less than a third of the rate of those who reported living in very unaccepting communities.

For the first time in over a month I had about an hour yesterday to do a little research - in this case some reading to complement archival work I've started. This quote from an early edition of Our Bodies Ourselves, on disrupting sexual shame, got to me (from Adams 2019 Peitho): 1/4
Picture a woman trying to do work and to enter into equal and satisfying relationships with other people—when she feels physically weak because she has never tried to be strong; when she drains her energy trying to change her face, her figure, her hair, her smells, to match some
ideal norm set by magazines, movies, and TV; when she feels confused and ashamed of the menstrual blood that every month appears from some dark place in her body; when her internal body processes are a mystery to her and surface only to cause her trouble (an unplanned
pregnancy, or cervical cancer); when she does not understand nor enjoy sex and concentrates her sexual drives into aimless romantic fantasies, perverting and misusing a potential energy because she has been brought up to deny it. (Preface to Our Bodies, Ourselves 1973; emphasis added)

A new study suggests that women start to devalue their own orgasms when they happen infrequently. This may be self-protective in the short term, but may ultimately widen the orgasm gap. www.psypost.org/new-psychology-rese…

New psychology research explains why some women devalue their own orgasms
When women consistently experience infrequent orgasms, both they and their partners mentally downgrade the importance of climaxing. While this psychological shift protects short-term self-esteem, new research suggests it might ultimately perpetuate the ongoing orgasm gap.

It’s upper-level content on intro-level topics (e.g., theories, anatomy, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, gender, porn, etc.). There is info on kink & poly but we were just talking about stepping it up in the 17th ed! So there is some but I would say it’s intro info for non-kink/poly practitioners.
