I do not recall, but I think there isn't any obvious difference. You do not see in clear sky image of the lake bed. Also, it been a while since the lake has been this active, so maybe there is a lot of unevenly distributed organic material on it surface that impacted the saltation/partcile release?

🛰️ Same day but now at sunset over Patagonia, #highlatitudedust activity continued into the night. Note the presence of clouds partially obscure direct view of the dust cloud which make it more difficult for detection algorithms to compute the total extent and how much dust is going into the ocean.

🛰️🔥 Yesterday in the Northern hemisphere, most of the #smoke was being produced by fires in Russia. A lot of smoke in Africa is moving in to the Atlantic O. Note the increasing number of fires in S. America, an area to keep an eye on since this is the time of the year when it is most intense.

Europe , in general it should be fine, but in Russia and the USA & CAN there are too many very large regions that lack surface sensors. Among those arid environments, southwest of USA is the one in most need of such network expansion.

Attn @mparrington.bsky.social @aerosolwatch.bsky.social @tomgillpredicts.bsky.social Interesting point in this study. While they do not highlight in conclusions, it is clear in their plots that polarized remote sensing detects dust much better in arid areas than traditional methods.

🧪🛰️ Paper highlights that we are failing to properly monitor pollution in arid areas. Surface networks like Aeronet are used to validate what satellites detect. There are too few of them in arid areas & thus impacting how accurately #dust is detected from space. www.science.org/doi/epdf/10....

i guess the reasons to separate are whether the increase is because urban expansion got closer to fire prone areas or assuming little expansion, the fires are ,for some reason, getting kor starting ) closer those areas. Probably it is a mixture of both.
