"Meow" is 1842, earlier miaow, miau, meaw (1630s). French miaou, German miauen, Persian maw, Japanese nya nya, Arabic nau-nau, and Joyce's mrkgnao. In Chinese, miau = "cat." As a verb in English by 1630s, meaw, also meawle. Compare Old French miauer "to meow, caterwaul." Related: Meowed; meowing.

Panel 1 is titled “Journalist logs into Twitter”
Image shows a Pink Guy performing a high jump. He easily sails over a tall barrier that says “Racism, Nazis, Homophobia, CSAM and Bigotry”. He smiles and waves at the reader.

Panel 2 is titled “Journalist logs into BlueSky”
The Pink Guy is doing the high jump again, however, this time, a much smaller barrier just says “Smugness”. The Pink Guy is clinging to the barrier, trying to hook his leg over it. He yells “Hnnngh I CAN’T GET OVER IT”

To our dismay, the artist and author Marjane Satrapi has passed away. As she wrote, ordinary Americans and Iranians have more in common with each other than we do with either of our governments, which have far too much in common with each other. We honor her memory and oppose the war.

NO WAR WITH IRAN!
The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West.
You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together
& we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you
& your government is much bigger than the difference
between you & me.
And the difference between me
& my government is much bigger
than the difference
between me & you.
And our governments are very much the same...

I must say again—because so many do not see this: fascism does not start with concentration camps, that is where it can end. It starts with hollowing out the rule of law; with limiting rights; with denying some of us their existence on the basis of who they are. So that is where must be stopped.
