Do y'all remember before the internet, when people thought the cause of stupidity was the lack of access to information? Yeah, it wasn't that.

The Christophe-Colomb and Bellechasse protected intersection under the snow (📷 @velo.qc.ca). There was much handwringing about this being "impossible" to clear of snow. My team will be talking to maintenance crews to see how it's going and what we could improve in future protected intersections.

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan… * Vehicle traffic: -11% * Foot traffic: +3.4% * Storefront vacancy: -0.9% * Pollution: -22% * Revenue for mass transit: $548M So YES this has been a huge success.

We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are. The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.

Voorstraat in Utrecht: a true fietsstraat where bikes come first and cars are guests. It’s not just safer and more relaxed to cycle - the whole street benefits. Outdoor cafés, quieter homes, and a vibrant public space. When you design for people, cities flourish.

“Most Montrealers probably know Ferrada best for having committed a cardinal sin as a landlord: collecting an illegal security deposit, and an equally illegal cleaning fee. Another concern with Ensemble Montréal’s mayoral hopeful is that she’s become the de facto leader of the ‘bikelash’ movement.”

When newly-elected Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson started converting car lanes to bike lanes in 2009, pundits claimed it was political suicide. In 2018, he stepped down after three terms as the longest-serving mayor in the city's history. So what can this tale teach us about so-called "bikelash"?🧵

A comic-style meme shows a stick figure with an American flag shouting "Globalism is over!" at a group of four other stick figures representing China, Canada, Mexico, and the EU, each wearing their respective flags. In the second panel, the group stands together, one gives a thumbs up. By the third panel, they are united and smiling, while the American figure remains quiet. This meme illustrates the theme of an "Isolated America" in contrast to international unity.

As a neuroscientist who studies urban stress, loud cars/motorcycles should be banned, or fined excessively until drivers reassess their need to broadcast their self esteem with unnecessary noise pollution. I don’t need to hear your car in my apartment.
