This was my original blue sky account that I'm hoping to migrate to my own pds! Check me out at @sgo.to!

Blargh! After many months running my PDS smoothly, I finally got to a backward incompatible change somewhere! I can't post anymore from @sgo.to :( Still debugging here :(

I finished my move to @sgo.to, which is now pointed to my own DID with my own implementation of a PDS running in a single and fragile heroku server. I'll keep this account as a backup! This is an experiment, try #2! Will it work this time? Lets find out!

@sgo.to how is it going?

Ok, I think I figured out what I'm going to do: 1) Keep this account rather than migrate it 2) Move this account to @samuelgoto.bsky.social 3) Point @sgo.to to my own personal PDS 4) Cross my fingers my own personal PDS won't entirely die on me or get hacked See you all on the other side!

I cleaned up my PDS quite a lot and now that I'm proxying most of the requests I feel like the implementation is extremely small ... I'm wondering if I should migrate my @sgo.to handle to my PDS ... Would it be easy to export my DID private key from the Bluesky PDS?

Oh, wow, I think I was wrong about this! I stripped out *all* of the app.bsky.* RPCs and proxied them to the atproto-proxy and my PDS is now much leaner and still up and running! It is only handling the com.atproto.* RPCs! @bnewbold.net @willem.dobs.nl @threddyrex.org

I'm starting to believe that I shouldn't try to build my own PDS from scratch ... there is an infinite amount of RPCs to support bsky.app ... likes, repost, notifications, all sorts of things ... plus building a feed, managing followers, etc ...

@bnewbold.net I have to say that the design of the interaction between the PDS and the bsky.app caught me a bit by surprise ... I was thinking that my PDS would/should be responsible for my own data, but it seems like it also responsible for serving the entire's network data ... For example:

@thisismissem.social @aaronpk.com @bumblefudge.com @willem.dobs.nl do you have tooling to debug my OAuth implementation in pds.sgo.to? I have exposed .well-known/oauth-protected-resource and other things, but blacksky is rejecting it, I'm wondering if it you'd have some tool that I could use.

This is pretty cool! One of my first contributions to closure (man, almost 15 years ago when I was on the gmail.com team?) was an HTML Sanitizer API! Super glad to see this baked into browsers!! github.com/google/closu...

@thisismissem.social @bumblefudge.com @aaronpk.com I'm building my own PDS to understand how atproto works (pds.sgo.to) and the first that caught me by surprise was that I have to enter my PDS's username/password to login to bsky.app with it. Would it be possible for me to use OAuth instead?

Here is one of the first messages I wrote from my own PDS that actually found its way through the actual relays! A lot of things aren't working (like setting profile pictures, blobs and replying to threads), but I'm happy how far I've got using gemini 3 to produce a conformant PDS implementation!

@thisismissem.social @bnewbold.net @danabra.mov I spent a good amount of time trying to put together a personal PDS ... I managed to "login with my PDS to the bsky.app" and "create posts", but I'm really struggling to make my PDS crawled by the relay ... Any chance you have some tooling to help?

The @atproto implementation of the PDS assumes that there are many users per instance, and I think that creates all sorts of complications to run it on Vercel and Turso (for example, you need one sqlite database per user?). Is there a single-user PDS library somewhere that I could use?

Today, I spent some time trying to run my own PDS on Vercel ... I got pretty far, but got stuck trying to set up my S3 blobstore ... Maybe some other day, when my non-corp gemini-cli token credit allows me to use bigger models ...

Users first, developers second, browser engines third, technical purity last. Not sure what's most surprising: that it had to be written down or that it has to be quoted often.

So a not too well known thing about me: I'm the co-author of the Client ID Metadata Documents internet draft that Bluesky / AT Proto uses for OAuth. This document came about due to my work on Mastodon's OAuth implementation. If you'd like to support my work: support.thisismissem.social

Bluesky and the AT Protocol needs FedCM support badly. It's just not fun to type in a URL every time I want to sign in to another ATmosphere site.

"Evan: What would be helpful for this community to do, to influence further work and adoption of IdP Registration?" The answer that I think is most constructive is: ship code. IdP Registration is available in chrome behind a flag and can already be used by real websites.
