Marauders Inc (formerly Trick Raiders?) had the hallmark dilemmas of other great trick-takers. You must divide your hand into lead (public) and follow cards (private), with rank abilities that can help you cement a lead or claw back a victory. In a group with mixed experience, we all enjoyed it.

Woo, a climbing/shedding game played in teams of 2, had a flow that really took a moment to grasp. Players each contribute cards to form a shared meld, but who passes and when is consequential. It took the third round for us to feel comfortable with it, but then each team had shout-worthy plays.

Trifle cards, 0 to 5 in the Hearts suit. Shows a white stout with a blue kerchief filling a bowl with cream, cake, and strawberries. Higher numbers have more filling in the bowl.

The 0 and 1 of Diamonds, Spades, and Clubs. The Diamonds have a Bear in an orange chef's hat and kerchief. The Spades have a squirrel in a balck hat and kerchief. The Clubs have a deer in a white hat and apron.

The Trife Queen cards: Strawberry, Banana, Blueberry, and Kiwi. The Trifle card back. The Trifle scoring card has a spoon and animals.

Right now, I’m looking for a special deck called Ten-chi-hai. It was only played in Taiwan back in the 1980s. The deck has two suits, Heaven and Earth, and each of those is split into three: Heaven: Moon, Sun, Stars Earth: Pine, Bamboo, Plum

I love that we associated each rank with a body part, so when you play cards you can say
Wing of Bat!
Heart of Dragon!
Tongue of Owl!
Hair of Wolf!
or the classic
Eye of Newt!!!

I know a few folks who will dig these victory tokens. Yeah, the skull/king thing is Hamlet while the 3 witches are from Macbeth, but I think of them as all being part of the Shakespeare Cinematic Universe (SCU).

This shows part of the very intentional asymmetrical distribution of ranks among the suits. Each of the 5 suits has only 3 or 4 cards with ranks ranging from 1 to 7.
