The CDC just posted this today. Do you see anything missing? Washing our hands will not meaningfully protect us from airborne viruses like Covid. We need respirator MASKS for that!
CDC graphic posted on Instagram with caption "Actions you can take to protect yourself and others from respiratory illnesses

-washing your hands frequently
-cover coughs and sneezes
-avoid touching your face
-regularly disinfect surfaces
-stay up to date with vaccines
-open windows or use air filters

Scientists are generally not politicians - e.g. elected folks in public governance, but policy wonks/analysts have A LOT in common with scientists. Pols needn't know everything about everything, if they have the wisdom to consult broad transdisciplinary expert teams & the humility to listen them.

I know I'm unusual, but I think ppl should actually avoid spreading airborne plague, and should definitely, DEFINITELY not risk breathing it in. Pneumonic plague is ~100% fatal if not treated w/in 24 hours of symptoms. It's airborne Black Death, after all.

Bonus note: Mendelian Randomization is incredible. Most epidemiological/observational studies cannot prove causation, only association, bc groups aren't randomized. MR uses genomes (already randomized) for comparison, so causation can be inferred w/o an experimental study. Such a clever technique!

Correct! It's layered, fractal wrongness. COVID infections appear to *cause* some cancers. (It's not just that the pandemic delayed screening, so ppl got worse before getting care.) Plus, pl who already have cancer are ALSO at higher risk from COVID infxns. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

So the software does not ship with AI that auto-installs. But it is compatible with a variety of AI modules/programs that users may add if they want.
170
Safety In Numbers @safetyinnumbers.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It means no built-in AI until it meets a bunch of criteria related to safety, privacy, choice, and control. You may still optionally install AI modules for use with LibreOffice Suite - whether self-run locally or third-party cloud-based. The linked article explains in more detail.
170
Safety In Numbers @safetyinnumbers.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Users can still add-on their own choice of AI, but until it's ALL OF THESE: safe, open format, doesn't take your data/IP, doesn't lock-in a single architecture, entirely optional & offers real benefits to users - no built-in AI will be included in LibreOffice. Cuz' ethics. 👍

Physical force to uphold rule of law is 1 of many things needed. Think bigger: -Major constitutional amendments, all-level changes to undo elite capture -Anti-trust -Proactive, prosocial responses to major threats (which foster fascism) like climate change & pandemics -Proportional representation

Safety In Numbers @safetyinnumbers.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Fascists have weaknesses, exploit them: -They purge the smart, capable, trustworthy ones - bc they won't follow orders. THEY have knowledge & skills you need. Recruit them -They are incompetent - don't comply in advance, call their bluffs -Kleptocrats crave $ - deny them yours -Educate the ignorant

Safety In Numbers @safetyinnumbers.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Identifying systemic issues is the first step to fixing them. You need big structural changes & equitable power/resource redistribution. Make fascism unprofitable, divest from ppl/orgs who do bad things, & CREATE/USE ALTERNATIVES. Refuse your $/labor/data/legitimacy. Prepare for a long haul.

Safety In Numbers @safetyinnumbers.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Addendum: This does NOT mean US shouldn't vote or protest. Big midterm wins may hinder fascist entrenchment. Protests challenge legitimacy (a real problem for US fascists), while building networks & normalizing resistance. But they are *insufficient* alone; more is needed. Daily life must change.

Ok sorry but Tim Hodgson's interview on Power and Politics really gives the game away. He's asked, isn't there language in Bill C-5 that all projects listed as in the national interest should be considered for how they *contribute to Canada's clean growth and climate goals*? Oh! There it is 👇
Factors
(6) In deciding whether to make an order under subsection (1) or (4) in respect of a project, the Governor in Council may consider any factor that the Governor in Council considers relevant, including the extent to which the project can
(a) strengthen Canada’s autonomy, resilience and security;

(b) provide economic or other benefits to Canada;

(c) have a high likelihood of successful execution;

(d) advance the interests of Indigenous peoples; and

(e) contribute to clean growth and to meeting Canada’s objectives with respect to climate change.

I caught that too. Family-based punishment formally enshrined in law has a certain congruency with punishing people nonviolently protesting a genocide though. Both are forms of collective punishment, visited upon innocent and guilty indiscriminately.
