Today I watched a kid drop loose Cheerios on the floor of the Q train, pick them up and defiantly eat them and I immediately felt like I was getting a sympathetic virus

This sadly explains a lot.... Not only have they stopped acquiring cool stuff but they've been dropping things I watched through them (my Kamen Rider!) (Still grateful to past them for my Animated Beetlejuice DVDs tho)

There are serious things to say about authoritarianism, manipulation, and cults of personality, but “lol, drink the Kool-Aid” does none of that work. It makes the victims’ supposed gullibility the memorable part and lets the machinery of their captivity and agonizing death disappear.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Oh thanks for the recommendations! I enjoyed pledge of allegiance -- but my follow-up reading on that era afterwards was truly fascinating. Will hit up my library for your doulogy asap!

sadako bat @sadiebat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

I recently watched Pledge of allegiance which takes place during (a highly fictionalized version of) the Jingnan war between Zhu Di and his nephew - I ended up reading a lot about the Yongle Emperor afterwards. Might be really interesting to watch something set shortly after!

It's funny to me when people pretend they don't understand what long-time residents in particular cities mean when they use the term "transplant." Of course you do. They mean HOSTILE and DISRESPECTFUL people who move into cities and expect those cities to cater TO THEM and their personal bullshit.

Yeah I'm a big DMBJ fan but there's really too much! It's overwhelming. If you want to just stay in the Republican era, have you seen Nanyang Mystery? I think that's the only other drama. I think there's some movies too? Idk I haven't delved into the Republican stuff yet at all lol

sadako bat @sadiebat.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

On second thought I think if you watch ultimate note you'll want to at least read the summaries of books/dramas 2 & 3 or it will be really confusing at the start

Also Joseph Zeng is my favorite Wu Xie, if him playing his own grandpa you will probably appreciate him in this!

020

sadako bat @sadiebat.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Time Raiders covers volume 1, I think specifically the "private notes" version of it; Ultimate Note adapts 4-7 so continues the Wu Xie/Qilin storyline. I have seen people say that Ultimate Note stands on its own pretty well even if you're new to the series.

020

sadako bat @sadiebat.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Ultimate Note is so far my favorite adaptation although I have yet to see a DMBJ adaptation that didn't have flaws

Eye-wateringly stupid defence from Rowling’s team here - ‘She does not support legal actions aimed at harming transgender people.’ - Really? So that £70,000 towards the bathroom ban was by accident? The JKR Women’s Fund was made by an impersonator? At least have the spine to admit you want us dead

I feel like this crucial fact and Giuliani's name should be at the very TOP of this article, perhaps in the headline www.nytimes.com/2026/09/07/n...

From the New York Times article: Releasing the documents was both a significant logistical hurdle, for which the mayor budgeted $34 million, and an acknowledgment that, even after so many years, as fewer Americans remember the attacks, the health effects persist. More people are believed to have died from illnesses related to the attacks than the nearly 3,000 people who were killed on Sept. 11. They are succumbing to lung and blood cancers and heart and respiratory diseases.

That's basically how I feel, I don't mind a romantic subplot *at all* but I'm not generally interested in anything that's a capital R Romance. Definitely not the popular position lol Anyway glad to hear good things about mystic nine! I hope to get to it soon

120

sadako bat @sadiebat.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

I honestly gave up looking for discussion on cdramas bc I never watch romance! I mean I also don't have a lot of time so I can't watch many shows but still it was surprising (at first)

020

sadako bat @sadiebat.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

I haven't watched mystic nine yet (I'm a lost tomb fan but haven't dipped into the Republican storyline) but I feel like there's very little non-romance cdrama discussion!
