AI Doomsday Panic Is Completely Out Of Control
The press obsession with software-powered doomsday is a misdirection overshadowing a much deadlier reality: our public interest regulators no longer function.

The fact that OpenAI is making it much easier for unskilled people to break into and damage servers is indeed *very* bad news, but it's not *new* bad news. Irresponsible parties have been doing this for years, most notably the NSA.

If you showed up at Defcon and gave talk about how your autonomous malware did something unexpected and damaged someone else's computers, the first question from the audience would be "Why are you so shit at making secure sandboxes?" It wouldn't be "How are you so awesome at making hacking tools?"

In network security we've been dealing with the sort of thing the HuggingFace incident represents for decades, from script kiddies to exploit toolkits, and so on. It's an escalation in hacking tools, not a machine with consciousness or free will.

In the wake of Arday's death, Nathan Cofnas (who led the X mob against him) states his motivation. Beyond whistleblowing, he states that after a 'revolution' removes professors like Arday, it will open opportunities for him to become 'head of the department of eugenics and race science at Harvard'.

⭕️ Israel’s Elbit-run Tzayad “digital army” system flagged 850,000 real-time targets across Gaza and Lebanon between October 7, 2023 and the end of 2025 — people, vehicles, and other objects detected for possible follow-up attack from land, sea, or air — according to a company presentation at a London military conference, The Guardian reported.

Elbit VP and IDF reserve major general Miki Edelstein cited the figure on a slide alongside 20,000+ IDF battle plans. Contacted afterward, Elbit denied the number meant targets, calling it “system activity” despite the slide’s wording.

Former Pentagon targeting adviser Wes Bryant said the IDF had at one point marked up to half of Gaza’s 2.2 million people and 300,000 buildings, and that vetting 1,000 targets a day for civilian harm is impossible.

This is fine for long-term needs like encryption. It’s silly for short-term stuff like authentication. As long as there’s an upgrade path, your signature scheme or ZKP isn’t going to get smacked by someone’s secret quantum computer. You’ll see the quantum computers coming and upgrade.

Fight Chat Control @fightchatcontrol.bsky.social · 12/11/2025
What happened today?

Behind closed doors, the Law Enforcement Working Party group approved the revised Danish Chat Control compromise with broad support. While mandatory scanning had officially been dropped, Article 4 of the new text reframes and reintroduces it by obliging providers of e-mail, chat, and messenger services to take “all appropriate risk mitigation measures”. This effectively forces providers to scan all messages, including private, end-to-end encrypted content.

The same article outlaws anonymous communication by requiring every citizen to verify their age before accessing a service, kneecapping whistleblowers, journalists, political activists, and people seeking help who depend on anonymity. Article 6 further imposes a digital house arrest and would ban minors from installing software which comes with a significant risk of grooming, such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and online games like Roblox.

What happens next?

The legislation now moves to the Coreper (Committee of Permanent Representations) for approval. Without major political objections, the Council will formally adopt its position. At this stage, both the Council and Commission unite in imposing mass surveillance on all 450 million citizens of the European Union and we enter a rushed trilogue. Unfortunately, while the mandate of the European Parliament does not suffer from the same flaws, the Parliament is traditionally known for giving in.

What now?

We raise our voices. Louder.
