Went to a work event at Old Trafford today, which was pretty good but I've spent the entire night with sickness and the other thing. I'm now 2 for 2 at Old Trafford corporate hospitality making me sick. Hopefully it's the only time United make me sick this week.

Getting a bit sick of the narrative that Chelsea FC received a lenient punishment because they self-reported. Many of the offshore payments exposed by the Guardian and media partners were not self-reported (possibly because the new owners didn't know, although we can't be sure of that).

Say something like: I am here; more than ever. I am, always have been, always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters. Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.

Proper football men at Spurs. None of this fraud nonsense.

I hope all those new City signings insisted on a relegation release clause. Should've joined Spurs, Mr Ndiaye, where relegation is marginally less likely.

Anything less than expulsion from the football league, removal of the owners and a fine on a scale unlike anything seen before and City will have got off lightly.

It's not sustainable to spend £400m every window, of course, but Tottenham haven't done that. They spent well within their means for a very long time despite consistently high league finishes, whilst many around them did not. Even this window, the net spend was circa £173m, the same as Ipswich.

frugality over the past 20 odd years has allowed them to do. And in fact the reason they've spent is because of those 2 terrible seasons. Every other team can follow the same model too but it takes time. Everton are doing just that.

The stadium debt isn't considered in these calculations. Tottenham have had the lowest wages to turnover in the league for the best part of 2 decades, and have grown their wealth organically, not from wealthy foreign benefactors pumping in money. The model has changed a bit now, which their

Almost as if finishing position in the league is nothing to do with FFP. That's the same Tottenham that during Pochettino's reign went 18 months without making a single signing, by the way. I think they are the only Premier League team to have ever done so.

The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

It's pretty concerning how the players just aren't playing those through balls. I'd hope De Zerbi is showing them all these videos and working on this in training. Losing Porro won't help, but we need Fernandes deeper and Maddison in the 10.

Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Gray is such an unusual case in that even rival fans talk about him in glowing terms, yet he isn't even close to making our strongest 11. I assume his best position is in central midfield but I'm not sure what he brings us beyond versatility right now. He doesn't seem to excel in any area.

How bad are the Spurs so this season? 20th in the table is, understatement, not great. But, are they relegation candidates? Probably not. For xG/xGA/xPTS, rank is ~15th. If Brentford game was an outlier (I think/hope it was), then considerably better for xGA (5th best) and xPTS (12th). xG ~16th

What a horrendous own goal to concede. United more determined to send Spurs bottom than they are to sort out their own issues, apparently.
020
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
It's still a great talking point. Feels like Spurs have constantly been a season or two behind whatever the current meta is ever since Poch left. I think for right now the answer is balancing technique and physicality, but it's frustrating because the best 11 we have on paper is too small.
011
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Exactly this. In an era where the meta is set pieces and counter attacks/transitions, we've sold all our strongest aerial players and look incredibly susceptible to counters and direct football. Think we'd be a lot more threatening if we had a mobile forward who is strong in the air in both boxes.

Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Robertson and Porro are both known for their excellent delivery. Maddison as well when he plays. We had 11 corners yesterday and yet I can't think of a chance from any of them. Last season we were pretty lethal from them, we've got the same set piece coach so it's got to be a personnel thing.

Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
We can definitely play better, but we don't seem to have much character and definitely no winning or never-say-die mentality, that Palhinha seemed to have. We also look physically weak and our set-piece proficiency has disappeared.
100
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Yeah, I could definitely have gotten on board with that. Did Vuskovic not demand to leave though? All the indications were that he was insistent on leaving and specifically going to Brighton, which honestly suggests him and his team are pretty smart people.
100
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Not sure about this one. If he was playing at Spurs, he'd probably have been exposed in the same way Van Hecke has been in certain situations too. We have a nasty habit of making players worse. I think if you took more or less any of our team and airlifted them into Brighton's, they'd look great.
100
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I miss Palhinha. Everyone seemed to want him gone, but his attitude was second to none, he gave us a big physical presence that we now lack - especially from set pieces - and was good in both boxes. We'd be better if we'd spent £15m on him and £80m on a striker, instead of signing Tonali IMO. #COYS

That sentiment has always existed in certain quarters of the fanbase who didn't want him to begin with. He was always going to be subject to higher scrutiny and greater pressure than most that came before him, and the money spent has only exacerbated that.
050
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
No idea. He walked off the pitch, so likely just a week or two, but when you add the Spurs tax it's likely he's out until March.
100
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Yeah, I agree but ultimately the balance isn't right with both him and Tonali as a pairing at least for home games where we expect to have the lion's share of possession, and Fernandes is also not a 10 anyway. I'd be fine with Bentancur and Fernandes but I can't see us dropping Tonali.
110
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Kinsky Porro Van Hecke VDV Udogie Fernandes Tonali Kudus Maddison Savio Marmoush Need to start playing our best possible 11 after the international break. I think this is probably it right now. Only concern would be it's a bit lightweight. #COYS

Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Son could go either way and hit brilliant shots off both feet. So far, Marmoush seems to only want to use his right, which makes him somewhat predictable. He's shown flashes but I'm more concerned about him than I am Savio, Tonali or Fernandes right now.
000
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Solanke would be fine if we had goals elsewhere in the team. Sadly, we don't. Apparently our greatest goalscoring threat is Conor Gallagher, which doesn't seem ideal. I'm yet to be convinced by Marmoush. Clearly a talented footballer but I don't know what he is.
110
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
I do think that the lack of set piece threat is also inhibiting us massively. Every team in the league seemingly offers a threat there now, and we've lost ours. Similarly, we're a bit too easy to counter attack. It's often just one long ball that undoes us. Van Hecke looks weak in this regard.
110
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
6 points, maybe 7. That's my incredibly optimistic take. If we don't beat Coventry, I'll start to truly panic along with everyone else I think.
010
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Absolutely. They actually seemed to play with more freedom when 3 down. Look at Kudus for the first Spurs goal - he showed absolutely none of that intent to beat his man up until that moment. They're all paralysed by fear.

I'm on 11 points from 7 players in #FPL this week, so you should all definitely listen to my football opinions.
000
Dan Almond @s17pur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Yeah, I think that's fair. The pressure will inevitably rise with each game until we start winning, but we've invested so much in this project (not just financially) that we simply have to give it time. There are some small things to cling to. Coventry at home looks like a huge game.
