True but unlike the news these stories are not real, actually fun and end 😜

Finished listening to Mythos read by Stephen Fry, as a Mythology nerd there was little in it I did not already know, yet it was still very entertaining and well presented. #booksky

I ended up setting aside The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in favor of reading Frankenstein which I have now finished. I have concluded that I was remis to not have read this book earlier in my life, it really is a masterpiece 🎃

I have always cooked it inside the turkey, this is the guide I use for that- www.canadianturkey.ca/en/all-about... If you are planning to cook it in a casserole dish I have yet to have luck with that.

I finished my first October classic read, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a fairly short book that is very heavy on detail and set up. It's a product of it's time and not really my thing but it was worth taking the time to find that out. Next up- The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 🎃

Spent the day reading The Memoir of Johnny DayWalker by Meghan Davis and loved it. This vampire memoir was funny, charming and touching. My only complaint is that I want more... guess I'll just need to check out the author's other books. #booksky

Last night I read Unsaved (A Tale at the End Book 1) by Pemry Janes. It's an intriguing sci-fi dystopian novella following a robot doing what it takes to survive in a world that doesn't accept them. A quick read with deep themes. Also I love the cover. #booksky

I love cooking but most of my recipes are just put flavor on the thing and then cook until it is cooked, serve with other things with flavor on them that have been cooked until cooked.

I have done this a couple of times. Basically you set the time period you want to make it free 1-5 days and that is about it. I only "sold" 1 or 2 free copies each time, although I did not promo it very much especially the first time because I got the flu.

Writing advice- Do not read articles or watch videos on how to "write good" when you are in the drafting phase, save it for when you're editing. (Coming from someone who just broke that rule and deeply regrets it🤦)

I managed to update my WIP section of my website, only one day late this time. I still plan on posting updates on the 25th of each month, but the 25th of August is a little rough because it would have been my mom's birthday. In future years I may aim to update early in August to avoid being late.

I received this as a gift a little while back and finally got around to reading it. Tusk Love was pretty much what I expected and fun to read. A Romance first with a bit of fantasy adventure. It is however riddled with romance tropes so if you love them you'll love this if not well... #booksky

I chose a barn owl specifically as the type of owl used, due to their adorable heart shaped faces and how common and wide spread they are. They are considered the oldest of all owls and are part of the Tyto genus. Also again I just like them because they are cool, pretty and remind me of my mom.

The Owl on my book cover is the symbol for my MC's family. I partly chose the owl because my mother liked them, so I always associated owls with her. Owls also symbolize many different things in different cultures, the main things I associate them with are wisdom, vigilance and intuition.

S-L Mackenzie @s-l-mackenzie.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

They also face a number of threats including habitat loss, poisoning from pesticides and climate change. Some things you can do to help owls are to support organizations that fight climate change or promote conservation, avoid using rodenticides and reducing light pollution.

Today is #InternationalOwlAwareness day, so I am going to talk a bit about owls, as well as why I used one on my book cover. Owls are a fascinating species of bird that serve an important role in the ecosystem by eating small prey like insects and rodents. They are also just really pretty birds.
