When patients ask, “What disorder do I really ‘have’?” the honest answer is usually more interesting and messier than a single diagnostic label. I wrote for the @nytimes.com on what I wish people understood about diagnoses and the nature of mental health problems. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/11/o...

The "woke" research grants RFK Jr. cut at NIH? Millions of dollars to research maternal health, vaccines, Alzheimer's, and cancer. How is researching cancer woke? No one voted for this.

Despite increasing use of observational data in public health, researchers are still hesitant to use strong causal language (for fear of overpromising). New paper and comment in @bmj.com sets out new guidance on appropriate use/misuse of causal language www.bmj.com/content/392/...

As a social epidemiologist, I often use data from Bureau of Labor Statistics to study health impacts of economic policies. As Trump fires head of #BLS and justifies decision with false reasons, I worry about quality and politicization of data we use to inform policies. @aeainformation.bsky.social

Donald Trump is attacking Harvard for refusing to carry out his political agenda. Now, innocent students are caught in the crossfire. Harvard is right to fight back. But this isn't just about Harvard — anyone who crosses Trump could be punished. It's a threat to all of us.

In the past month 4 trainees in my lab lost: NIH diversity supplement, MARC, & STEP-Up funding. NSF SBE meeting (incl. ECRs) indefinitely postponed. Pipeline cuts disproportionately affect underrepresented scholars. Individual lives & our collective future impacted. #ScienceMatters
