I went to read the Anime News Network reviews of this show, having finished the episode, and they have this EXACT same frame but you can tell I took it myself because my coloration is different

After finishing these episodes I often go back and read out some of the reviews I was avoiding beforehand I’m pretty confident they will all mention Fushigi Yuugi for this one

You Will Get Paradise Killer. It's still Five Literal Dollars. You will get the 9 hour free roam mystery game starring a wide bisexual woman who kicks Complete Ass and has a lot of personal problems. It owns. Use the footbaths, trust me. It has COLLECTABLES. it has SHINJI. You'll like Shinji.

Art of Shinji from Paradise Killer, by Kaizengames, art for this design done by Gigalithic. Shinji is a blue humanoid with four arms, a vaugely deer like muzzle, and an otherwise rectangular head. He has four arms, all of which are busy symmetrically flipping you off American and Brit style. He's also squatting so deeply that whatever he has going on down there is censored by a somewhat odd shocked emoji face with three X's for eyes.

That was not a rant-worthy episode, but I also came into it with high expectations and am not leaving disappointed Far From Away - it’s good, actually

100

Saw that final line of dialogue coming pretty far away, but I don’t think it was truly supposed to be surprising

100

It is MUCH less annoying than Fushigi Yuugi

100

I do not think the Fushigi Yuugi comparisons are on me. This is definitely a show that has watched Fushigi Yuugi, and I think is in conversation with it

100

The language gimmick is that all the dialogue is in Japanese but it is extremely explicit that some of them are not actually speaking Japanese (like Hunt For Red October did with the Russians)

100

Ooooh, premise complications! Maybe less straightforward isekai

100

I do not know how long they will keep having a language barrier gimmick, but I’m enjoying them doing it for more than just two lines of dialogue

100

It’s different in many ways, but this is giving me lots of Fushigi Yuugi thoughts That might be influenced by having just watched the Rayearth remake, but I think some of it’s deliberate

100

8min thoughts: I started this saying I think this is likely to be pretty good, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that so far this seems pretty good To early to know, but it’s got confidence and quality

100

“Going to be” -> “is”

100

This is definitely going to be an isekai

100

I’m liking the look of this

100

Don’t know much more than that. Promo art might have talked me into checking it out but I’ve seen several comments saying “… and not a good as new shows like From Far Away” So I have hopes

100

New anime Autumn26 trial 07: From Far Away I try to compile this list while spoiling as little of the show as possible. I go into these pretty ignorant on purpose… but it has been unavoidable that some people are really pleased about this one And I think it’s an isekai, so that’s not a common vibe

The Worlds Strongest Witch here with the life path many of us wish for

A shot from the anime The World’s Strongest Witch of a young fantasy heroine walking through a bright forest with musical notes around her saying “Anyway, l’m glad they banished me before I figured out how to use the Internet”

000

I was not expecting to like that so much. It’s very stupid, and it clearly knows that. It looks really good to me. The pacing is punchy. The protagonist is charming Completely worked on me

000

That reminded me a LOT of other things, especially the Campfire Cooking (Internet Shopping) Isekai and I Maxxed My Defense, but it explicitly being not an isekai or a person playing a videogame made a lot of things FEEL fresh even if I’ve seen them before

110

Got to what the cold-open was foreshadowing and now with context it made me laugh out loud

100

The fact that this NOT an isekai (at least for our protagonist) is making this premise way more entertaining The premise so far is “this girl is in a JRPG” (it’s adding to that premise quickly though)

100

The show keeps referencing “The Internet”, which being a loanword gets put in the subtitles just like that This is leading to a lot of excellent standalone screencaps

100

Our protagonist has discovered pop-up ads

100

This just gave me an infinitely reusable screenshot, but I’m going to post it after so it isn’t in the middle of this thread (because I will be reusing it)

100

I want to talk about our protagonist’s Skill, but it would distract me from watching

100

I know I said I was tired of everything being a JRPG but this has leaned ALL the way in and I am eating it up. Right now, barely anywhere in this show, I’m loving this vibe

100

8min thoughts: This is JRPG as fuck

100

It had a 30 second cold-open and then the OP played and I think I maybe have UNDERstated how JRPG this is going to be

100

I made this joke like 30min ago THIS one has “Skill” in the background of the promo art… in a menu… in katakana This is going to be JRPG AS FUCK bsky.app/profile/ryan...

100

New anime Autumn26 trial 06: The World’s Strongest Witch Lot of witches tonight Another one of which I am unusually ignorant. When I added it to the list it didn’t even have thumbnail art on Crunchyroll

100

I’m not excited by this in the way I have been about some earlier ones. It was not very energetic and didn’t present much not covered in the title… but also I smiled a lot and laughed at the smug deer. I’m going to also give this one a few episodes

000

Oh! Credits? Didn’t realize we were there

100

Look, I am sometimes a very simple person and there is a good chance that this one shot of a smug deer has by itself convinced me to stick with this show

A cartoon deer. It is looking very smugly at the camera

100

I just started typing way too much about persecution of witches in fantasy and it distracted me from watch

100

I guess that makes it somewhat JRPGish, but no one has discussed EXP, adventurers guilds, numerical levels or said “Skill” like it should be capitalized, so I’m still saying not-a-JRPG

100

The plot so far is “what if your Zelda fetch-quests were being given by someone who did not want you finishing the game”, which amuses me
