Megan Gill and Ryan Solinsky, both researchers at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota discuss a common problem in SCI neuromodulation work: abandoned technology, or the lack of support that comes after receiving a device like an epidural stimulator. Link: u2fp.org/get-educated...

Spinal stimulation can activate the autonomic nervous system & ⬆️ blood pressure (BP). Authors examine the interpretation of BP changes & if they constitute autonomic dysreflexia (AD). Better defining AD will help standardize research & translate findings. 🧠🔄 🧠📈 🧪 journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...
The image shows details about the paper linked in the post. It was published in the journal Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair. The title of the post is, "Blood Pressure Increases in Spinal Stimulation: Reviewing Autonomic Dysreflexia and the Necessity for its Redefinition."

Is it "Treatment" or "Trouble"? 🔍 Our new review tackles a major debate in #SpinalCordInjury research: How do we define Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD) during spinal cord stimulation? Currently, any systolic BP jump >20 mmHg is labeled AD. But as #NeuroTech evolves, researchers are split… 1/n

Defending PhD student, looking over their thesis: “If I knew then what I know now, I could’ve done all of this in like 9 months.” A thread about my favorite pioneering cave explorers and why I don’t think AI will ever “solve” biology.

Ground breaking wireless bladder pressure monitor for real world recordings in Journal of Urology. Already yielding results, showing higher pressures during ambulation. This will change how we manage and think about bladder dysfunction after SCI. Sponsored by the now defunded DoD SCIRP grants.

This is really interesting & I hope it holds up to rigorous peer review. With an intervention at 2-4 weeks after acute SCI, considering natural recovery is key. Digital twins are ideal to know typical recovery. Dr. Bruningk’s site will be my first stop when these results hit. hicsci.ethz.ch/tool

Think you know Autonomic Dysreflexia after spinal cord injury? After decades of everyone doing their own thing, we’ve had 20 years consensus definition. But it’s far from perfect. Herein we take a deep dive into where the definition fails and how it might be improved. #Medsky #SCIrehab #PhySKYatry
