I think maybe the best analog to Trump is Sapurmurat Niyazov, president of Turkmenistan from 1985-2006. It's not just the gold statues of himself, but the absolute *mania* of naming things after themselves and renaming everything just to prove their omnipotence
Niyazov became a substitute for the vacuum left by the downfall of the communist system, with his image replacing those of Marx and Lenin. During his rule, Niyazov created a strong cult of personality around himself, which resembled the one around the Kim dynasty in North Korea and the Gaddafi regime in Libya. He renamed the town of Jaňga and city of Krasnovodsk after his nickname Türkmenbaşy, and renamed schools, airports,[72] Ashgabat streets, and even a meteorite after himself and members of his family. The city of Kerki was renamed for his father, and city of Ýylanly for his mother. The doting actions of the official Turkmen media supported his cult of personality. The government renamed the months and most days of the week after symbols Niyazov wrote about. The national anthem of Turkmenistan referred to him. According to the newspaper Neytralny Turkmenistan physicians were ordered to swear an oath to the President, replacing the Hippocratic Oath.[64]

Statues and portraits of him were put everywhere throughout the country. In Ashgabat, he erected a rotating, $12 million, golden statue of himself that always faces the sun.[73][74][75] Niyazov gave every citizen a watch with his portrait in its dial.

Ironic because the whole point of 54% is to have a high enough floor to compete every year and maybe sometimes strike gold. The floor was supposed to be *the point* of their system. They're even failing their own poorly communicated metrics.

I'm so used to nobody in a position of authority in society taking any responsibility whatsoever that the smallest, least acceptable glimmer of it felt at least a little positive. But everything you say is still true.

As it should. Political parties should suffer electoral consequences for behaving so ineptly and giving an openly wicked man unchecked power. Feels like a sci-fi movie where someone has finally turned the ship’s gravity back on.

Dan Wilson somehow combined Jim Mora Jr-level team-building with Jimmy Lake-level in-game decision-making. It’s been truly remarkable. Can’t wait to find out which low-cost replacement-level manager Jerry chooses this time.

Is Babylon weak? Eh, yes and no. And I wasn’t playing on Deity. Restrictive? Very. You really do have to constantly slot Corona Civica & Gordian Knot to get any decent settlement limit. Interesting build. Huge cities. But a Babylon that starts slow? Weird idea to implement, not my favorite.

In a Civ 7 Q&A session on the upcoming Arc of Tomorrow and Earthrise expansions, this answer made me the most excited. Currently, the game turns into a visual mess halfway through the exploration age, and it needs these reforestation and green-space improvements to clean up the clutter.

Lastly, Babylon leans hard into specialists. It's nice to have niche civs, but I don't like how specialists are handled now. It's a puzzle with only one right answer (surround a key quarter with wonders) that lacks choice and creativity. The numbers go brrr is fun but wish there were more options.

The Kirimāḫu has to be one of the weakest uniques in the game. You don't need the early food because you grow by wonders & buildings, then you grow so big you outgrow food entirely. Placing it centrally in your city gives the most food adjacency, but that's better used for a wonder. Nearly useless.

Tried the new Civ 7 Babylon this weekend. Typically love my Mesopotamian civs, but it's weird to play a cradle of civilization civ that's so weak in antiquity. The early city growth is nice, but the settlement cap is so onerous it feels like it takes until exploration age to finally get going.

Elizabeth always wanted to reclaim an English presence on the continent. :) With her attention focused on France, and the Privy Council watching her cousin Mary, nobody noticed the rise of the true usurper back home, the Countess of Lovelace.

Culture needs an entire expansion to flesh out, bringing back great works and national parks etc. The restriction of one great work type per age - with no art, music, or literature - is absurd. Excited to see how they handle films, but skeptical considering how shallow the other great works are.
