Back from our first #PeTCaT campaign to NWT, CA visiting retrogressive thaw slumps. We sampled multiple thaw slumps from their thawing headwall down to the revegetated debris tongue. We investigate changes in vegetation, soils, C-cycling and GHG fluxes after slump formation.

🎉 I started this week as a Research Associate on the PeTCaT project, where I investigate GHG fluxes from abrupt permafrost thaw. 🌍In the Arctic, warming and rainfall lead to more retrogressive thaw slumps. These soils become a major GHG hotspot, but this carbon feedback is poorly quantified .
The foreground shows an steep 25 meter cliff that is eroded due to thaw of permafrost, with a wet muddy floor and steep wall of thawing permafrost. At the top of the cliff stands a helicopter. In the background there are mountains.
