🧬 As biodiversity faces unprecedented challenges, high-quality reference #genomes preserve invaluable biological knowledge for future generations. Together, EBP affiliates are building the genomic foundation for #discoveries in #evolution, #conservation, agriculture, #biotechnology, and beyond.
A collage featuring a wide variety of eukaryotic life, including fungi, insects, butterflies, corals, echinoderms, crustaceans, earthworms, molluscs, flowering plants, mosses, trees, ferns, slime molds, microscopic organisms, fish, mammals, and marine mammals. Overlaid text reads: "Building the Genomic Library of Life." Additional text states: "Together, EBP-affiliated projects are helping build one of the largest scientific infrastructure efforts ever attempted in biology."

Dendrocollybia racemosa, a weird little mushroom that grows on the sporocarps of a.o. Russula nigricans. It's only the third time ever I have found this species since it's pretty rare and rather inconspicuous. 🍄 #FungiFriends
Small mushrooms that are basically just branched stipes without a hat, appearing between litter and moss on the forest floorFruiting bodies of Dendrocollybia racemosa with in the background the much larger fruiting body of Russula nigricans

Humble Administrator's Garden, Suzhou. What held my attention was less the blue glass of the Mandarin Duck Hall than the mosses and small ferns on the stones below it. Here the rocks are allowed to age. Colonization is part of the design.

Rain is the best time to see the Forbidden City. The crowds thin out, the red walls deepen, the yellow glazed tiles glow, and the wet paving mirrors the palace. You hear only the rain on the stones. For once, the old palace feels quiet. #ForbiddenCity #Beijing

🧬🌱 REVIEW 🌱🧬 Ferreras-Garrucho et al. explore recent methodological advancements in single cell technologies to unravel the spatio-temporal dynamics of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis, focusing on cell-type-specific plant and fungal transcriptomes. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/jxb/... #PlantScience 🧪
Fig. 1 (shortened, full legend in paper): Spatio-temporal dynamics of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis at diverging plant scales. (A) Zoomed-in general root colonised by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) is shown, showcasing the extra- and intraradical fungal structures and their spatial localisation within the root layers, as well as the asynchronous nature of the interaction, as distinct colonisation stages are present in the same root. (B) Detail of a general root with exodermis, sclerenchyma, and multiple cortical layers, highlighting the longitudinal organisation of the root zones from root cap to differentiation zone. Darker colouring of the exodermis, endodermis, sclerenchyma, and xylem indicates their increasing level of suberisation, lignification, and/or formation of Casparian strips going from the meristem to the differentiation zone.
