I recently finished reading: Quiet Champions A Way Forward for Mentors in Turbulent Times by Ian Chisholm 📚, which I highly recommend. My intent is to write a review. For now, this quote feels like a good way to summa... commonplace.rumon.ca/2026/09/27/i-r…

First batch of cowboy candy out of our farmhouse test kitchen*. Working with sugar rush peach peppers. Couldn’t be happier with the results (including in respect of the breakfast sandwich that was their first application). 🤌 *It’s our only kitchen.

Morning walk at PKOLS with a dear friend and my dog … at the point at which we were comparing notes on why we had each on separate and overlapping timelines, let our relationships with this lapse. So begin, again.
The morning sun peaking through the trunks of a stand of mixed coniferous and deciduous trees.

Early airport drop means a sunrise run at ȽÁU,WELNEW (Tlay-will-nook), the high point of land that enabled the W̱SÁNEĆ people to survive the great flood. Here, the stories tell the ancestors were able to tie their canoe to an arbutus tree with a giant cedar rope, until the floodwaters subsided.

Lovely little eveningmaker … haven’t seen an owl in the yard in a while (though evidence - feathers, meal carcasses, etc. - is always appearing) … and this one appears to be a young-of-the-year. Always a treat, always grateful.
Two coniferous trees with a juvenile Barred Owl in a branch midway up one of them.

😍 “not bad”?? Looks amaze! I so wanted to leave our walls kinda raw when we moved in and started our restor’n (very early days in first pic), but got outvoted. See also, can we start a Lighting Mutual Admiration Society (ref. second pic, a few weeks later, c.2022)? Heck, a general support Signal?!

I’m typically the first (human) up in our household. On many of those mornings, though, Eddy will have already been stirring, hoping for his people for get moving. It’s people, plural, though.

There’s a much longer story that I haven’t been detailing here about a return to health and fitness (post-50), but for now indulge me as I share how grateful I feel to be able to run again, in particular to be able to do so with my partner (well, for 1/2 the run!), and in a place like this, my home.

New office this week = new, longer commute. Made longer still in order to avoid boring standard roadways and make use of Victoria’s brilliant network of painted / protected bike lanes and rails-to-trails routes, including this beautiful final mile over our urban Gorge waterway.

Timeline cleanse. (I’ve wanted to cohabitate with a stellate mag for as long as I can remember. Rehoming this one from a colleague 2 years ago was and remains such a gift. She feels like a portent of positivity to me.) Happy spring.

There are few things better than being nearby withnessing people you love in the places, pursuits and experiences that fill them up. Jennie, this morning, prepping a few flowers in our backyard urban farm to share with the community before heading off to work at the actual farm.
A woman, face obscured by one of the flowers, reaches through a row of pink-hued dahlias to cut a few samples for sale. Warm morning light illuminates the scene.

Reflections from this morning’s garden walk … Of course the Penhill Watermelon in the first image stops you in your tracks on the morning garden walk, but it’s fun to juxtapose the far less brash strawflowers (last image) that are now emerging one row over … [1/2]
