... They are baptised My fragile little babes, They are baptised Upon the Gospels. On a Vigil eve, Most solemnly kept, On a Vigil eve They must be shattered: And those who resemble My beautiful little babes, Those who resemble them Shall die within the year!

For the month of October, the calendar gives a BEWITCHMENT: Fragile little babes – As you see them – Fragile little babes Are born beneath my fingers. A sly spirit, (Swift to bring its Death) A sly spirit Is within their clay. [Continued...]
Envoûtement

Des poupons fragiles
– Comme tu les vois –
Des poupons fragiles
Naissent sous mes doigts.

Un esprit sournois,
(Pour sa Mort, agile)
Un esprit sournois
Est dans leur argile.

Ils sont baptisés,
Mes poupons fragiles,
Ils sont baptisés
Sur les Évangiles.

Un soir de Vigile,
Très solennisé,
Un soir de Vigile
Faudra les briser :

Et ceux qui ressemblent
À mes beaux poupons,
Ceux qui leur ressemblent
Dans l'année mourront !

Vintage-style Gothic artwork featuring a woman in a long white nightgown fleeing past a gnarled, leafless tree under a dark, dramatic sky. White serif text centered at the top of the image reads: "Ask your doctor if running screaming into the savage night might be right for you." A small copyright watermark reading "©ephemera.com" is visible in the bottom right corner.

"An ancient horror settled on the street, (...) To choke the summer's final breath complete In a dark sepulchre of winter's cold. And well I knew in that dead hour of night That autumn brought no simple change of year, But an old ice-god rising in his might To claim the world in desolation drear."

DEATH
By Clarence E. Flynn
WHY do you fear me?
I am your friend. I but guide trav'lers
Rounding the bend-
Lead them to freedom
From time and age,
Help them start writing
On a new page.

Seek for me never,
Keep your course true-
When I am needed
I'll come to you,
Then I will show you
Roads without end-
Why do you fear me?
I am your friend.
