They would’ve been roughly contemporaneous with Chaucer, but where Chaucer was a power-player who thrived in the red-hot center of things in London—snapping selfies with John of Gaunt, buried in Westminster Abbey—the Gawain poet lived off in the provinces, somewhere to the north.

The 14th Amendment, section 3, already says that, but people couldn’t figure out a way to enforce it. constitutioncenter.org/the-constitu...
Section 3
No person shall be a Senator or
Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

@mercurynews.com The Victorian era was 1837-1901. During the time, Britain had one monarch. Her name was Queen Victoria, and she didn‘t die of TB. So who are these “Victorian-era monarchs” & who associates them with TB? I think of starving artists & tragic characters in novels when I think of TB.

What determines the presidential order of succession
The U.S. Constitution and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 outline the presidential line of succession. The line of succession of cabinet officers is in the order of their agencies’ creation.

3. President Pro Tempore of the Senate

“Understanding Jewish traditions” This guy doesn’t know the first thing about Hanukkah. “Multiplying your ministry impact with Jewish friends, family, and communities.” Does this mean trying to convert us? Further down: “demonstrates genuine respect” Really?
[picture of alleged Hanukkiyah with only six branches]

Why Understanding Jewish Traditions Matters

Understanding Jewish traditions is more than an academic exercise—it’s a vital step toward building trust, correcting misconceptions, and multiplying your ministry impact with Jewish friends, family, and communities. For Christians, this knowledge opens doors to deeper relationships and more meaningful conversations about faith.

The British Library is our great national home of cultural workers. We go there to read and research, to learn and to grow, to write and to think, to inspire and create. Facilitating our work is a great army of library staff, who are also cultural workers. Without them, the library does not function, the books do not get read, the culture does not come to pass. And how are they treated? According to their union, they are offered pay deals so dire that many of them work multiple jobs and live in substandard housing. Seventy one per cent of respondents to a union survey find their salary insufficient to meet basic needs. Some workers report mental and physical health deterioration as a consequence of these poverty wages.

No baseball team has ever won a best-of-seven series after being down 0-3, but one team, the 2004 Boston Red Sox, came back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series, which was the ALCS against the New York Yankees. This comeback is the only one of its kind in MLB postseason history and is often called the "greatest comeback in sports history".

There are protests next Saturday. Humanity will be there. The fascists are saying it will be a terrorist gathering, a criminal conspiracy, a violent uprising.
So let's be criminals, by which I mean let's be antifascists, by which I mean let's be humans. Let's be wise and normal and silly and joyous and brave and hopeful.
Let's all wave hello to each other.

Members of Congress (House or Senate) can be expelled by a 2/3 vote of their own chamber. www.law.cornell.edu/constitution...
The Constitution’s structure and historical practice also indicate that impeachment likely does not apply to Members of Congress.17 First, Article II, Section 3 provides that officers of the United States are commissioned by the President;18 Members of Congress receive no such commission. Second, Members may be removed from office by other means explicitly provided in the Constitution.19 Third, the Ineligibility Clause bars any person “holding any office under the United States” from serving in any house of Congress, indicating the Members of Congress are not considered officers of the United States.20

When citizens must think twice about criticizing or opposing the government because they could credibly face government retribution, they no longer live in a full democracy.

By that measure, America has crossed the line into competitive authoritarianism. The Trump administration’s weaponization of government agencies and flurry of punitive actions against critics has raised the cost of opposition for a wide range of Americans.
