The plans the WH is considering are not those seen in other high-income countries that aim to facilitate work & childrearing. They are not investing in childcare infrastructure or paid parental leave programs. They want to return to a time when women were dependent on men. Pronatalism is sexist.

NIH is likely cutting up to 25% of its workforce this week. NIH staff have substantial expertise, typically PhDs. And they really *believe* in the work. NIH's will not be able to meet its mission w/these cuts. The scientific threat is not just direct funding cuts www.statnews.com/2025/03/14/n...

International students aren't typically eligible for financial aid. Which means that even if they make up a small share of students (~10% at most big state schools; more than that at many private schools), they generate a much bigger share of tuition revenue. Which makes losing them a serious risk.

In my entire undergraduate college career, spanning decades, I had *one* Black professor. In four colleges. Private and public. In New York City! Got B.A. in 2015. (I didn't finish the first time and went back as an old.)
