San Francisco’s AI boom is creating wealth and driving up housing costs. Our director, @sashakillewald.bsky.social, tells Business Insider why being shut out of homeownership has lasting effects on wealth. www.businessinsider.com/san-francisc...
Screenshot of a Business Insider “Cost of the City” article quoting Alexandra Killewald, director of the Stone Center for Inequality Dynamics at the University of Michigan. Killewald says that being unable to become a homeowner has vast, long-term consequences because a home is most Americans’ largest asset and rising home values are an important pathway to middle-class wealth accumulation.

New article in press @ Social Science & Medicine. In HRS, we find that White (but not Black) older adults have lower epigenetic age acceleration scores if they also live in predominantly White areas. These patterns are largely unrelated to any other residential features. tinyurl.com/msevnhwh
Multigroup structural equation model depicting paths between residential variables (e.g., racial clustering, pollution, greenspace) and a latent variable of epigenetic age acceleration.Graphs depicting race-stratified slopes and 95% confidence intervals between racial residential clustering on the x-axis and three epigenetic age acceleration biomarkers on the y-axis: GrimAge, MPOA, and PhenoAge. The graphs show that epigenetic age acceleration scores tend to go down among White respondents as the clustering of White residents in their census tracts increase.
