3D printed 1:8 scale Continental R-670 engine and wheels for the R/C Stearman PT-17 Kaydet. Mostly printed hollow to minimise weight. Even the tyres are 3D printed.

A little project for the winter 😊. I made one a few years ago but the 3D printer, filament quality and my skills weren't what they are today.

Landing without incident is about as advanced as I ever got, and I didn’t do that very often.

14 Oct 1977, Bowie released his 12th studio album Heroes, the 2nd instalment of his Berlin Trilogy with Brian Eno. Heroes continued the ambient experiments of Bowie's previous album Low & featured contributions from guitarist Robert Fripp. NME picked it as their Album of the Year. #BowieForever

I’ve got a feeling my brother still has my DC Merlin 🤔

010

If memory serves I had a second-hand Macgregor 1+1 radio control (the ones with the lovely blue anodised aluminium cases) so it would have been rudder only.

You learned to get your fingers out of the way. The smell of nitro-cellulose dope and model engine fuel added to the fun 😵‍💫🤪

130

My brother was the control-line enthusiast. Those things scared the hell out of me.

My first radio controlled plane - early 1970s. It was called Mpunku, had a 26” wingspan and I put a Davis-Charlton Merlin .75cc engine in it. The plans came from Aeromodeller Magazine and are still available online. I probably still have mine somewhere.

I don’t think I built the Minimoa. I liked the Topper because of the V tail and the Caprice was easy to build and fly.

Keil Kraft Senator circa 1970. Shortly before becoming a tissue paper bag of balsa wood bits probably.

More childhood memories 😊. I built a few of these. The rubber-powered Senator was also a favourite.

Day two of repairs to this old Titanic model (not mine). A broken mast was fixed with a new metal section secured to the original stump with a hypodermic needle inserted into a hole I drilled.

I’ve now actually read the instructions for the ramen van and it turns out the awnings should be mahogany. I’ve stripped the brown paint and will attempt a wood finish 😰 #ScaleModels

There we go. A little bit of touch up needed. #ScaleModels

The mummy returns. All this for a red stripe 😊 #ScaleModels

Yellow. I’ll leave it overnight then mask again and paint the red stripe rather than use the decals provided.

Shore Larks shuffle into today’s Autumn Arrival Spotlight! ❄️ These Arctic visitors, with their distinctive yellow faces and black ‘horns,’ brighten up coastal dunes and saltmarshes on winter days. An exciting spot along our shores!

Definitely autumn, despite being above 15°C overnight.

I’d forgotten about the boat. I remember that the Batmobile fired little orange missiles that, inevitably, ended up in the vacuum cleaner.

I had the 007 Aston Martin and the Batmobile and the Dinky Thunderbirds. No fire engine though 😔

It’s too late now ☹️

010

I empathise. The number of times I’ve started out with the intention of doing a straight build only to dig myself a deep hole.

I’m not bitter or jealous 😠
