this book is good! come learn the terrible truth that tennis balls are a microcosm of technological modernity and they weren't bright yellow until 1972 when you had to see them on a color tv. the world you know is a web of strings and gauze and anything can be changed at any moment

Took a (very) rainy walk through the Loop tonight. I was absolutely soaked, but my camera stayed dry enough.

The pavement in Chicago is wet from a day-long rain. Street and traffic lights reflect on the stored in vivid colors. In the foreground, a person with an umbrella is an out-of-focus silhouette

Calder's Flaming - an orange, abstract metal sculpture in Chicago stands in a wet, reflective plaza. The sculpture is reflected in the rain coating the plaza's stone pavers in the evening with buildings in the background

This is suuuuuch a good example of how Realis works. Both the way that it allows for a sort of narrative maneuvering /and/ the way it pushes everyone to really get creative with what they have on their sheets. www.reddit.com/r/rpg/commen...

Reddit post titled: "What's the most elegant mechanic you've ever seen?"

With the body text: "Elegance" meaning the most complex/nuanced outcome from the simplest input

A post from Reddit user fluxyggdrasil:

The moment I think I "Got" Realis was a session where they were protecting a noble kid at a feast. Good kid, super naive, super surrounded by usurpers.

One noble was found stabbed in the main hall. "Does anybody have a counter for the sentence "I always take drastic measures to achieve my goals?" The intent is to kill this woman." Naturally, the doctor of the group ran out and into the hall to save her.

...what they then learned was that this was a ploy to separate the doctor from the noble kid.

"...The Doctor is busy, it's just you two now. And now I need to ask you: Do either of you have a counter for the sentence "I always wield an undetectable poison?" Their intent is to poison the child to death."

No 'dice' or random chance, but watching those players SCRAMBLE over their sheets to try and find a sentence they could leverage in a way to counter this sentence and un-poison the kid. (Which credit where it's due, they managed to do!) But man, I never thought Diceless gaming would have any stakes or "High-Pressure" situations until I pulled that admittedly mean trick on them. Consider me a Realis believer. That entire mini-campaign was fantastic.

A follow up question from Strayl1ght:

What was the counter? Now you have me invested

A response from fluxyggdrasil:

My Duelist PC countered by invoking their sentence +0 "I always carry a beautiful and distinct (weapon)." Their intent was to do some medieval-style bloodletting to get the poison out of the blood (or at least keep them stable long enough for the doctor to come back) as their weapon would be sharp as any scalpel, so it would be a much safer and easier cut to stitch back closed.

suddenly not the same anymore. but the thing is, the characteristic feeling of living through war and apocalypse, as characterized by the many who are forced to live through it in part because of such imperialist and colonial ventures by the anglosphere, is that "everyday life" continues

something i've been contemplating in my head is that a lot of anglosphere posting about The Crisis treats it as a kind of apocalyptic rupture - a combo of imperialism guilt desiring comeuppance, abdication of revolution in the core, and the settlerist prepper vibe - where everyday life is

In my journeys of reading more books, a thing I've noticed is that in film/tv/game adaptations of these books, whenever there's tension between characters around one having knowledge that the other is going to betray them, this tension is sanded away in favor of a surprise betrayal

Build a city on the ruins of an outer space mausoleum, manage resources to construct and maintain buildings, and preserve balance with the local ecosystem. Oh, and try not to get on the wrong side of the strange factions keeping tabs on you. Amberspire is out on May 6th! 🌇🛒⬇️

Dais

Dais are a nomadic religious order in a fervent quest to maintain the corporeality of their god. Small cadres travel the galazy in search of artifacts, converts, and political assistance to maintain the inertia of their faith. It is rumoured that the Dais knights have supernatural abilities, but these are so rarely seen they cannot be resolved.

The Dais favor adds two dice storage spaces, and the penalty removes two dice storage spaces.
