Today I only wrote about 500 words in my fake marriage criminal novel. It’s feeling a little clunky so it’s not moving well. I should probably go for a 9pm writing session just to get through the clunk so I can start tomorrow fresh. Clunkless.

The best way I’ve found to make writing easy is to write every day. I know that feels burdensome to some people but a daily writing habit sets up a routine so I don’t fight my mind and body to get to work. I just sit down at the regular time and my internal clock says it’s time to write.

Today I wrote 2748 words for a total of 15646 words in my sci fi romance about a couple of criminals on the lam from their pirate captain while hiding on a sentient station as a fake married couple of farmers. Its working title is Double Trouble. Sci fi romance you see. Fake relationship ftw.

I’ve set my own challenge to write this new book and it’s basically a double nano over two months. For 100k words. Hoping to finish the whole book. I don’t know if I’ll manage it but I know how these challenges work and I’ve set up my pacemaker plan and am on track after four days.

Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t maintain your personal goal word counts everyday. Life gets in the way. Instead of looking for perfect numbers go with the flow and write more on those days you have time/energy/inspiration and less on slow days. You aren’t a machine.

I’m gonna brag a little. My daughter made dinner. Fettucine Alfredo from scratch. It was delicious. Not at all too heavy like I was afraid. Having a kid grow up and love to cook is awesome. She’s good at it too.

I looked at my Pinterest board for one of my unfinished novels in the universe I’m writing now and I loved it so much. Makes want to write that novel even though it’s like fourth down on the list of books I need to write/finish. I do think I can finish it now after developing the universe.

I’m getting more committed to illustrating my own book covers. I’ve been making art since I was little but always felt my style was too expressive/not illustrative enough. I don’t do realism. But with so much slimy AI realism maybe I should lean more into expressionism. THIS WAS MADE BY HAND!

Gizmo is the other kitten we rescued last year. He is 8 mos and went to get fixed and chipped today. He’s 10 lbs and we’re trying to figure out if that’s big average or small for an 8th month old. Our concept is skewed because we have some big cats.

This is the largest painting I’ve ever done. 36”x36” and I think I really like it. I finished it yesterday which means it needs to sit around so I can look at it and find a name for it. Painting large was one of my goals for 2024 so I made myself pick it up again and finish it this week.

Going in to the art collective gallery today and it’s getting near the end. The town is kicking us out of the building and won’t extend the lease until the new building is ready. So for a while we’ll be homeless and have nowhere to hold classes or show our work. Yes it’s political. #floridaartists

I voted today. Was so much easier than Election Day. No lines at the library. Took my 19 yo son and another 18 yo who couldnt get a ride. As a reward I stopped by the library charity book shop and got a pile of historical romance novels w step backs.
