Floopy is now playable on 32bit RISC OS computers without the need to emulate older kit. * It's still the original graphics (i.e. crap) * It has no sound * It uses a little over half the screen height (because it's in a more compatible resolution) But it's working and will be with me for London. 🙂

Saddened to hear Margaret Hamilton died recently. She has been credited with naming the discipline of "software engineering" and much more. Her career achievements are truly outstanding. Please read her Wiki page to see what she achieved. A truly remarkable person! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margare...

Further improvements- sound mixing. Revs surprises me. I don't remember the curbs having height as a kid, and although I knew you could collide with the other cars it all feels better than you'd expect for a game that came out when I was a potato with eyes and (very large) ears.

Elite was released 42 years ago. This space trading open world game is considered to be the forerunner of many modern games, as well as being an important milestone in the history of space sci-fi. Art by Philip Castle🔽
Box art by Philip Castle.

The image is dominated by the game's title, "ELITE," rendered in a bold, golden 3D font with large, stylized wings, resembling a prestigious pilot's insignia. The scene depicts key elements from the game:

The Cobra Mk III: The sleek, saucer-shaped ship in the foreground is the player's starting vessel, the legendary Cobra Mk III.

Coriolis Station: The massive, geometric structure is a Coriolis space station, the rotating hubs of trade and commerce where players would dock.
