RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 04/10/2026OSU is playing a lot more C1 and most of their issues are coming against man beaters where they’re not trading off 010
Reposted by RossRFultonSpace Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Then they came in with a season plan I guess to run every gap scheme in the book after getting lighter across the OL. Add a bunch of horizontal action for the RBs to it with reads, rely on drop back passing and a bunch of rhino shit from spread that isn’t forcing an overreaction to make it worth it 1221
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 26/09/2026OSU playing a ton of Odd C1 this year and their front is not full of monsters like they were last year. That plus a bust in assignments w 2 guys chasing a back out fast and they’re down a gap vs unbalanced counter to the boundary. You really can just play C3. 031
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Ope and then OSU busts playing C3 or maybe FZ. Needed a Smash call but both the corner and C/F player stayed low. 021
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 26/09/2026DCs like C1 on early downs bc it’s sound vs run and pass but every week I see teams bust when C1 defenders are put in run/pass conflict. If your front doesn’t protect them from making quick decisions or you don’t know who has what vs motions and formations, you’re gonna end up short a man vs gap. 121

I’m not sure if that was a bracket or C2 weak but either way if you know WMU you know that’s the kind of coverage you’re going to see. Disappointing that Bryce would look that way given the circumstances. Telling in a bad way maybe. 2193
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 27/01/2026I also think that D approach played into it—OSU was more of a cover 3, bend but don’t break approach—and opponents went really slow v OSU. 030
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 27/01/2026Day discussed in-season how, by playing slow, they were basically taking a game’s worth of plays off their starters. But it’s likewise hard for me to believe that they were that much slower than everyone else. 120

RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 30/11/2025I agree re relative lack of explosiveness out of the run game, but between the weather and Smith and Tate coming off injuries that’s about as neutered as the pass game will be. Get to play in domes/good weather going forward. 020

RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025OSU put Tate and Smith to the same side. UM went C2 to that side, C4 opposite. C2 Safety shaded to Smith. 120
Reposted by RossRFultonSpace Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 29/11/2025OSU really starting to go after the LB level, both in pass and in misdirection. They just do not execute early assignments well or recognize structures of route stems to help DBs behind them in coverage or actually position themselves to at least flash color to the QB 1151
Reposted by RossRFultonSpace Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 29/11/2025Zig zag motion into stack from the slot. LB didn’t have good leverage on the point man, can’t let him push vertical there and form that rub. But the motion makes it difficult as they are thinking quick route to the flat with the initial motion and not communicating 1152
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025OSU went 13P there as a tendency breaker. Got C3 000
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025@colintj.bsky.social have to assume that was Zeus on INT? C2 on Smith, C4 to field. Field side was where Sayin needed to go with football. 100
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025I’m similarly expecting UM to get in 12, then spread out, see how OSU responds. Lots of reliefs early. 000
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025Also if you get UM in a series where they’re playing a bunch of depth like they have all year would again go tempo and not sub. 021
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025lol great minds. Was gonna say, if UM is in nickel then you run you gap & pin and pull schemes and see if they can fit. 111
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025As we discussed, if I’m OSU I get in 12, then shift/spread out. See a) how UM responds personnel wise; and b) how UM matches personnel. Then if I get UM in base 3-4 I go tempo and don’t substitute. 022
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 29/11/2025Interesting wrinkle this year is OSU has tended to have a true outside monster and then a guy they lined up in the slot. This year it’s 2 true outside guys. So if we play C2 to Smith to the field, it’ll be Quarters away to Tate. Will Sayin be able to process that and get the ball to the 1v1? 281
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 29/11/2025Was gonna say, you know who else loved split Q IZ in short yardage!? 010
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025Eh. Def maj MoFC but uses C2, C4, C6. Lots of variation w/in those. But hasn’t had/wanted to use much of it. He def likes to use multiple fronts. Likes bringing out the different coverages/disguise on pass downs.bsky.app 010
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025If forced to pick, 3 LBer, but lots of variance. 120
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025Yes. It’s not an automatic response, but OSU will play 3 LBers. Will run Penny but have 2 off-ball LBers. Have also seen 6-1, true odd, over, under. 120
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025UM likes to run windback, right? Gets you to the same place as Duo. 120
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025To me, this is 2 man under. Where do you think Sayin should have gone with the ball? 100
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025I just don’t know how you get zone doubles against a gapped out, single high penny front. I haven’t seen any offense get doubles against them with zone runs this year. 010
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025PSU (and Illinois) had some success with unbalanced. Penny with C3 is such a balanced look on both sides of the center line so unbalanced is a good response. Expect some unbalanced from UM 010
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 24/11/2025@rossrfulton.bsky.social has said this elsewhere, but OSU’s become more and more of a Penny front (5-1 Nickel) team and that makes inside zone really tough to execute. Michigan has run more and more IZ to complement their OZ and moved away from their multiple gap stuff as the season has gone on. 1101
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 25/11/2025When UM is in 12P I’m also expecting Patricia to use some of the 6-1 that the Patriots used against the Rams in the SB. 010
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 19/10/2025Wink has blitzed on 3 of the first 23 plays. WAY less than usual. Also playing some Zeus on Boston. When Boston lines up at 1 to the field, they play C2 to the field, if he's 2 then Quarters. Play Quarters away from Boston. Simplifying a LOT but still a major wrinkle for this opponent. 1111
Reposted by RossRFultonManuel Excel @colintj.bsky.social · 12/10/2025Here’s a good example of our guys not being given answers in their calls. This is 3-4 vs 12 on 1st down after the 3rd and 1 that SC got into 12 for, tho I think they could’ve subbed. It’s a 4-deep 2-under fire zone. 191

RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 14/10/2025I’ve just never seen anything like that. The irony is that Wink is an NFL guy and NFL Ds hardly rotate. And there isn’t much need to in CFB anymore with the number of snaps so much lower. That is truly inane decision making. 051
RossRFulton @rossrfulton.bsky.social · 14/10/2025Has anyone come up with any explanation for why Michigan was playing so many backups together Saturday? Put aside any scheme or execution issues. If any D trots out their second/third stringers they’re gonna get chewed up. OSU put in their 2nd string in the 4Q Sat and Ill went right down the field 110
