Marcel Duchamp kicked the bucket 55 slutty, slutty years ago and you can't get him out of your head.
You're half as old as he is dead and you are worshiping at his altar, you are drinking his piss. He won.

friendly annual October reminder for journalists: if you're pulling quotes for an article from social media please do remember to double check the speaker's name
Quote from The Hill article in 2019: "“There is no reason Democrats should be making any deals with Mitch McConnell to make it easier to confirm more radical conservatives to the courts. Especially not after Kavanaugh,” tweeted Leah Ghostberg, the co-executive director of the advocacy group Indivisible.

One of my niche but CORRECT opinions is that we should bring back þ and ð. The voiced and unvoiced dental fricatives are separate sounds! We could split them between the two letters! They should not both be represented by "th".

Loose free hair has a *very* specific meaning in 1815 and it's, uh, not one that Austen heroines fit in (aka putting the loose in loose hair) It just feels so lazy.

I much prefer the historically accurate version where the British conquered the world for spices and still couldnt use any of them until the people they stole the spices from went there to show them how to use pepper

“Bongo” Ballpoint pen, pencil, watercolor, acrylic paint, and a little colored pencil.

Our man is in trouble this time, reader. Art supplies are scattered around a painting of an abstract cityscape. On the canvas we see a man in a telephone booth making a frantic call to his cat, Bongo. In the foreground, an answering machine is taking his voicemail, [Leave a message at the beep] --- “Bongo, Daddy got stuck in the painting. Go get help, Bongo.” Bongo stands at the base of the easel looking at the phone. Her tail in the air and ears perked up. Whether she’ll be able to help is open to interpretation.

Artist’s note: One of my favorites from the Spooky Pants book. I was playing around with the idea of a painting coming to life (like that guy in Ghostbusters 2) and kind of fumbled my way into this version. I really draw a lot of corded phones. I won’t stop.

People handle tasks so complex and with so many shifting variables as part of our day-to-day existence that the complexity is underestimated. It’s like how knitting machines have existed for over 400 years but there still isn’t a machine that can crochet, though we think of those tasks as comparable

coffee shop by my house hired a new barista who is extraordinarily hot and flirts with me incessantly but she also makes the worst - and i truly mean the worst - coffee i’ve ever paid for. atrociously bad. just another of god’s little jokes

just remembered the barista who worked there last year and treated me with an attitude generally reserved for children and the incompetent to the point where she would frequently adjust my drink order in front of me and every single time it was BANGIN’

Also, the American system makes "creating a new religious offshoot" extremely lucrative in a way that is not universally true. I don't think that Americans are more susceptible to cults than anyone else, just that cults are highly visible and profitable there.

One argument I read was that (the burned off district) was an offshoot of a culture of freedom of religion, because it provided the ability for religious cults to grow and expand with fewer restrictions from authorities than elsewhere.

If you look at it from the context of the early 19th century, such as the burned over district of upstate NY & the religious awakenings, it's a really interesting question that a lot of people have delved into.

Crown Royal still does bottling at its distilleries in Manitoba and Quebec for the Canadian and international market. So the Crown that you buy on Canadian shelves was made and bottled in Canada.
