When I first read the poetry of Vasyl Stus a few years ago (in English translation), I fell in love with it immediately. I hope to find a collection with side-by-side Ukrainian/English. This is especially important for poetry, which is so very difficult to translate.

A really noteworthy speech by Radosław Sikorski that does a marvelous job of summing up the posture of Europe in addressing serial Russian provocations, most recently, surrounding Kaliningrad.

Public allegations about the "mistreatment" of [fill-in-the-blank] speakers is an old imperialist trick known to all serious students of history, the earliest example of which I'm aware is from the mid 19th-c. Everyone at the time understood its meaning: It was a claim to someone else's land.

Well they *should* be embarrassed. It took the Russians 18 months to form the salient N. of Lyman (N. of the prized Fortress Belt), then the AFU, in an operation that took 6 months, pushed the Russian army back to the Zherebets River, liberating nearly 300 sq. km. Oof. What a humiliation!

Putin is preparing to carry out a large-scale mobilization. Two simple facts: 1. You don’t need mobilization if you’re winning the war. 2. You don’t need mobilization if you intend to end the war.

Damn it, doesn’t this remind you of that scene in Game of Thrones where they had to bring back a wight alive from the North so that everyone else would finally believe the threat was real? Zelenskyy should have brought those North Korean zombies straight to the UN, still in chains.
