can we stop allowing asinine techbros to hijack language and policy around the body, ffs. Implicit in the idea of biohacking is this deeply ableist notion that you can "hack" your way out of age, disability and illness. Can we please stop.
Lydia Christofferson, an assistant nursing professor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, recently began supplementing her meals with a greens powder and a Himalayan resin called shilajit, which she had read can ease perimenopausal symptoms.

She didn’t used to see herself as a biohacker. Nor did she relate to Peter Attia, one of the best-known proponents of biohacking — especially after he and some other longevity experts appeared in the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Now that the term has become more common, a biohacker seems like “a more everyday person,” said Ms. Christofferson, 45. “People trying to be the healthiest version of themselves, using whatever it takes to get there.”

Epistemicide is going on in the USA atm. Ressources, knowledge and access are destroyed with the primary goal of complete eradication of marginalized communities.
Post by taliabhattwrites:

Epistemicide" is a term you should become very familiar with in all discussions regarding trans oppression.
It sounds fancier than it is. The term is related to the concept of epistemic injustice. In essence, trans people have historically been subject to a form of epistemicide: our stories, histories, testimonials, ways of life, all erased and buried to maintain the patriarchal myth of dichotomous, naturalized, immutable sex.
We are then further marginalized through epistemic injustice, prevented from participating in the processes of knowledge-production, our testimonies devalued, our voices suppressed and our identities defined for us, not by us. The perception of us shaped by others, instead of ourselves. The conversation about us dominated by the voices of those who'd rather stamp us out, shouting over us constantly.
If you're not accounting for this as a central mechanism animating transphobia, you're missing a lot of the picture.

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

My new tattoo. I got at the end of November this year. As queer crip person, I now wear this deeply held conviction on my skin. If you’re curious the why …
Black and white picture of the upper back from Romy (romluras) showing the tattoo, saying „normal is killing us“ in a cyberpunk-esque font, divided in three lines. Top says „normal is“, filled out in black, middle says „killing“ with a metal-like shading and „us“ at the bottom, with a light shading at the lower left and upper right corners of the individual letters.

This is one of those examples that illustrates a harm of algorithmic systems that is often invisible—system “predicts” who is likely to miss appointments, and recommends double booking those slots, thus punishing poor people by wasting their time. arstechnica.com/health/2024/...
AI guardrails

Last, the administration's proposal also tries to shore up guardrails for the use of AI in health care with edits to existing policy. The goal is to make sure Medicare Advantage insurers don't adopt flawed AI recommendations that deepen bias and discrimination or exacerbate existing inequities.

As an example, the administration pointed to the use of AI to predict which patients would miss medical appointments—and then recommend that providers double-book the appointment slots for those patients. In this case, low-income patients are more likely to miss appointments, because they may struggle with transportation, childcare, and work schedules. "As a result of using this data within the AI tool, providers double-booked lower-income patients, causing longer wait times for lower-income patients and perpetuating the cycle of additional missed appointments for vulnerable patients." As such, it should be barred, the administration says.

most people want a quick and simple answer to why AI systems encode/exacerbate societal and historical bias/injustice and due to the reductive but common thinking of "bias in, bias out," the obvious culprit often is training data but this is not entirely true 1/

One thing I really dislike about the sex/gender divide is, that the mainstreamed oversimplification made gender a social construct untethered in materiality and sex materiality without culture. This has allowed some vile essentialism that was weaponized primarily against trans people but not solely.
