Chat is it good when an Ambassadorial nominee writes "Stop papering all these things. It’s really dangerous ... if you write an email or a text about, l’m gonna kill you cause I love you but you’re so out of control" to the man who paid her $300,000 to help resolve his tax issues with the IRS?
That same month, Guilfoyle sent a congratulatory note to Long after his confirmation as IRS commissioner. She attached a letter Deters had written outlining his tax dispute: “Don Jr. and I are very close with Eric Deters and his wife and I know he sent you a letter,” she wrote. “I am hoping I know how busy you are that you could give some time and attention to it.”

Two days later, Deters sent her a photo of a printed memo addressed to her: “I have paid you $300,000 over the years,” he wrote. “As of this memo, I have not received one favor. I am not naive or a sucker. I need results.”

In response, she told Deters to “stop papering all these things. It’s really dangerous.”

“Just call me on signal,” she wrote.

As for Long, she would call him the next day, she assured Deters. “I wrote him a very nice message. Told him how important it was that you’re close to me and to don.”

“Also very privately,” she continued, “if you write an email or a text about, l’m gonna kill you cause I love you but you’re so out of control.”

That afternoon she texted an update: Long had written her back.

“BOOM,” she added.

A week later, on July 3, she placed two missed calls to Deters’ phone, and sent him instructions on how to wire money to an American Express account.

“Your needing $100,000 urgent unfortunately is not going to work,” he wrote. “I can’t do this without getting a divorce.”

“I’ve been calling you for over a week straight,” she replied. “You could be here meeting with Billy Long.”

Long is now the U.S. ambassador to Iceland. Embassy officials there referred reporters to a State Department media office that didn’t respond to a request for comment.

This segment is about DHS's claim that they have identified and arrested over 2,000 "terrorists," a claim laughable on its face. This is largely because the admin has reclassified multiple criminal gangs as "foreign terrorist organizations," and ICE's gang identification is notorious sloppy.

While other outlets were calling Musk a mercurial genius, MAD Magazine had the journalistic courage to let me call him a bigot. Twice. #SatireMatters
"Free Speeches On The Beaches" appeared in the April 2023 issue of MAD Magazine. The parody of Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches discussed Musk decision to sell blue check marks and called him out for turning Twitter into a cesspool of bigotry. The illustrations are by Marc Palm. This is a single panel from a one-page parody of The Apprentice called "The Oligarch." The full version can be seen in the MAD Magazine issue #43.

A silhouetted figure that appears to be Donald Trump asks Elon Musk to show what he did for this week's task of redesigning the American flag. Musk says "My flag design represents America after my troop of programmers *fix* all of the countries vital systems." The flag resembles a Nazi flag, but instead of showing a swastika in the center circle, it instead has a "404 Error" message.

The article was written by Matt Cohen and illustrated by Hermann Mejia.

Shemini Atseret • the Open Siddur Project ✍ פְּרוֺיֶקְט הַסִּדּוּר הַפָּתוּחַ
This is an archive of prayers, prayer-poems, and songs for the festival of שְׁמִינִי עֲצֶרֶת Shemini Atseret. On Shemini Atseret, the Tefilat Geshem (prayer for rain) is offered for the fertility of all life on Earth and the resulting health of all peoples. (On the other side of the Jewish calendar, the Prayer for Dew is offered on Pesaḥ before the dry season in the northern hemisphere and Erets Yisrael.) Literally, Shemini Atseret means the “Eighth [day] of Assembly”, but given that both Shemini Atseret and the seventh final day of Pesaḥ are described as atseret in the Torah, the name is taken to mean “the closing festival” at the conclusion of each of these week long festivals. The origin of Ḥanukkah underscores the significance of these festivals. During the Seleucid Greek occupation of Jerusalem in the 160s BCE, Sukkot and Shemini Atseret could not properly be celebrated in the second Temple. As a result, when the Temple was retaken by the Maccabees after the rainy season had already begun, the festival of Ḥanukkah was born with many of Sukkot and Shemini Atseret’s rain-oriented ritual symbolism transformed to that of light. Co-incident with Shemini Atseret is the festival of the completion of the Torah, Simḥat Torah. In the Diaspora, Shemin Atseret is a two day festival and, outside the bounds of the historic land of Israel, Simḥat Torah is celebrated on the second day of the yom tov for Shemini Atseret. Click here to contribute a prayer or transcription or translation of a historic prayer. Looking for something else? For prayers, prayer-poems, and songs for Sukkot, go here.
