It includes those earning less than 24,000 per year. Which is roughly the unemployment payout on someone who earned 55,000 per year (State varies) Also 24,000 is less than the survival rate in the most affordable state in the country (WV) which is reported as 40,000 per year.

True. But from real world experiences, knowing that 24% of the population is either unemployed or earning less than 24k per year is more meaningful. Because at that income level they are functionally unemployed It’s the reason why most believe the economy is not doing well.

I believe that the number is believable. But what the number actually represents is of questionable use. The Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity (LISEP) reported its True Rate of Unemployment (TRU) at 24.9% for July 2026, compared to the official headline rate of 4.1%.
