Oof... yeah... I can see why. You're basically in a constant "Universal Studios HP Theme Park" 😬

Rodrigo Alem FernánDeath 🎃 @rodf.bsky.social · 30m

FWIW I would suggest that if the subject comes up you could just be "the cool aunt" that shows her other cool media and do similar stuff like we did with The Owl House. Our girl is really into magic, superheroes, shoujo even. It's more of a "look, there's more than just THIS..."

Rodrigo Alem FernánDeath 🎃 @rodf.bsky.social · 33m

Here in LATAM is a weird thing because Millennial parents that were into HP back then are very much oblivious or not bringing the whole transphobe stuff to task. And even our girl's school is VERY left leaning and Uruguay in general is VERY diversity friendly...

I totally get you. Our daughter's SCHOOL had some HP themed stuff even and it's a weird spot to be on. She knows the houses and stuff, we just.. don't encourage it that much and she's not that interested besides that. BUT we encourage other "magic school" media like The Owl House (which she LOVED).

Can't believe our car is so old that it now has features once considered obsolete becoming popular again. It's "I won't change my old MacBook because it's the last one with an actual HDMI port they made" all over again. 😂

You should just drop by LATAM. No need for a re-release or whatever. We gotchu fam.

I'm so sorry. Weird considering that the north of Uruguay is very much dominated by right-leaning local governments. It's mostly Montevideo and some other nearby places that steer harder left.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

You're not wrong, yeh... I'm pretty sure this one would be an actually game in 20 years or so where the US will be the de facto cartoon villain in a lot of media.

We should've learned how to shut down folks with this mentality way earlier. Honestly just calling them "weird" was so ridiculously effective those 2 weeks on the Harris campaign that I can't believe they didn't push it further.

Imagine when in 20+ years some (non-US) devs make the Wolfenstein equivalent to whatever this period in US history is defined by. How will it be called? "EagleStone"? Who would be the hero character? Will the end boss be Mecha-Trump? Is this just a Wolfenstein 3D mod waiting to happen?

This is (partially) a joke, but more seriously, I have actually found my game designs get better the more I reject conventional wisdom, and explicitly design around my personal strengths I just struggle to give that advice to novices because, weeeeell, your instincts aren't that good yet probably 😭

Me: I don't get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I'm like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?

The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it's the fascism. You're completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you're also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you're going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.

Me: BUT I HAVE A BULLET JOURNAL AND I MEDITATE NOW.

Tiny OSHA Me: BOSS, THE FASCISM.

All of these shut downs sting. This one hits slightly harder to my Producer brain because I felt like these folks made amazing games with smart scope and budgets in mind... and they still didn't make it... There's hardly any industry left. Hope all game devs land on their feet.
