'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)
An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

🚨New pub alert!🚨 Now available open-access in @hcr-journal.bsky.social, I show how endorsements of entertainment media from ingroup members, particularly inpartisans, affect exposure intentions, with differential effects across racial lines. #PolComm #PoliSci #Politics #MediaStudies 🧵
Current explanations for political divides in entertainment media use identify divergent preferences for or evaluations of content. According to the theory of normative social behavior (TNSB), extratextual information such as cues about the audience may also influence exposure intentions due to viewers’ perceptions of ingroup norms. Social media users discuss and form communities around entertainment content while conveying partisan and racial identities. A preregistered experiment exposed Black and White partisans (N = 1,259) to tweets in which a television show was endorsed by co- or out-partisans who were racial in- or out-group members. Exposure intentions were stronger when endorsement came from co-partisans; however, this effect was stronger for White partisans. Treatment effects were mediated by perceived ingroup norms and perceptions of how much of the audience consisted of ingroup members. Implications of multiple identities (i.e., race and partisanship) for the TNSB and the study of partisan entertainment divides are discussed.

To the Washington Spirit:

To say this year in DC was full of turmoil, uncertainty, and division would be an understatement. Inside of Audi Field however, we could unite as one community sharing in the experience of solidarity and fantastic Washington Spirit soccer. Audi wouldn’t be Rowdy without you, bringing us joy each and every game. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a light in such a difficult time.

Now, with one game left and the championship trophy on the line, we look forward to cheering as loudly as possible for you one last time this season. Whether it’s in San Jose or at a watch party in DC, know that we’re rooting for you as your twelfth player. We’re so proud to be your supporters.

Today, and every day, we stand with supporters groups across the NWSL to say - loud and clear: Trans People Belong. In the stands, on the pitch, in our communities - everywhere. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and celebrated. No exceptions. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ #TransPeopleBelong
As NWSL supporters associations representing thousands of fans across the country, we invite the NWSL and its fans to join us in taking a vocal and visible stand in support of the transgender community and against all gender-based harassment.
“Women’s soccer exists because society refused to accept exclusion. Our game was built through generations of struggle—for gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and racial justice. Efforts to exclude trans athletes are fueled by the same forces of misogyny and bigotry that have long tried to dictate who belongs. These efforts undermine the spirit of women’s sports and harm all athletes by reinforcing narrow, discriminatory ideas about gender.
“From the field to the stands, the LGBTQ+ community has always been a vital and visible part of the NWSL, and for many of us, women's sport is a safe haven—a place where we have found community and belonging while being our full selves. Come to an NWSL game, and you will see not just athleticism and competition, but joy and togetherness. Our league, where queer and trans kids can see themselves reflected on the field and in the stands, is proof that welcoming everyone makes us all safer.“Now, as the trans community faces escalating attacks driven by harmful legislation and damaging public rhetoric, we must continue that fight by standing firmly and vocally, together, for inclusion in sports. It is on all of us to ensure that every match, every event, and every space under the league’s banner remains safe, inclusive, and free from hate—for everyone.
“Silence is not neutrality. Speaking out matters. Showing your support for trans athletes, and trans people, matters. Let’s work together to ensure women’s soccer continues to be a space of inclusion, safety, and joy for all.
