A blog about the stuff I'm interested in. Most recently that's art, games and especially transit infrastructure. Odd, maybe, but I want to think about building the kind of world I want to live in.

I seem to be contrary to popular opinion again but I really like this trailer. It shows so much individual character as each participant joins the march. It tells a small story about who the key characters are without words, it has a narrative arc, and of course the music sells the whole thing.

I need to write something about this. Okay, so a township in PA said no to a data center. The developer then offered $10,000 to every household there to turn NO to YES while simultaneously suing to prevent any NO. The town then discovers Amazon is behind it, who lowballed $5M before offering $165M.

The rumors are true. Amazon is end user in contentious Pa. data center project.
Email correspondence between Pennsylvania's DCED secretary and a representative from Amazon Web Services confirms the connection to the project.

Starbucks Workers United @sbworkersunited.org · 25/08/2026
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS is written inside a zig-zaggy speech bubble against crumbled paper. Beside it are the Starbucks Workers United logo and an image of a coffee cup being poured out.We, the 12,000 and growing members of Starbucks Workers United, call on everyone who stands with working people to boycott Starbucks until they finalize a contract with union baristas and stop union-busting.
What we’re fighting for is simple: a minimum $17/hr wage, enough hours to live on, better staffing in our stores, and basic workplace protections. Every year, our living costs rise but our wages don’t keep up – a growing pressure many American workers are feeling as corporate greed accelerates unchecked in our country.
Starbucks is banking on customers' blind loyalty to the integrity and values this company once stood for in order to keep squeezing them for profits. At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers; choosing to spend money at Starbucks is choosing a law breaking corporation over the baristas who make your coffee everyday exactly as you ask for it.
Starbucks has violated U.S. labor law more than any other company in modern history–the NLRB and its judges have found that Starbucks committed hundreds of labor violations and there are currently more than 550 unresolved unfair labor practice charges still pending against the company. Instead of finalizing a fair and reasonable union contract, Starbucks has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care for the workers who fuel the company’s profits by wasting millions of dollars on AI and technology that doesn’t work, launching countless gimmicky drinks designed to distract from real problems, and inventing pointless policies that do nothing but make our jobs harder.
This ongoing, irrational behavior by Starbucks and its refusal to settle a fair union contract with workers leaves us with no other choice than to call for a boycott. We know when working people stand up together, we win.
No Contract? No Coffee.

This was followed by a torrent of all-caps chat responses that included “THEN DON’T ROLL IT OUT,” “SO WHY EVEN DO IT,” and “IF NO ONE WOULD OPT IN THAT MEANS NO ONE WANTS IT.”

I worked at Disney a while ago. Do you know why theme parks are so safe? Because OOSHA reps can walk the track on any ride at any time and any safety violation they see is a $10,000 fine. Each. Theme parks are not safe because the company cares. They're safe because it's cheaper to comply.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
Hi, thanks for posting! We do appreciate you thinking of us even though we have to moderate.

Our stance on all AI generated content (Images, Video, Voiceovers, and whatever else LLM based AI gets up to in the future):

At best, they are approximations of street fighter characters as the AI has no clue what it is trying to create. Because of this, there is no street fighter content so they are not allowed. (rule 1)

Also, they aren't allowed per our source rule. As AI sources cannot be tracked, we must assume that they use uncredited sources in the learning data. (rule 5)

Finally, AI images, video, text, and voiceovers are barely any different than posting a screenshot of a google search. The level of effort is so low that we consider it spam (rule 3).

Because of these reasons, AI art and other AI content is not allowed.

If you would like to contact the moderators about this removal, you can do so here.

Well, that was a fucking ride.
A cropped screenshot of an article section titled "Gary Larson cartoon incident" from a Tumblr page. The text describes a controversy involving a Far Side cartoon and Jane Goodall.

_____________

Gary Larson cartoon incident

_____________

In 1987 Gary Larson published a Far Side cartoon of two chimpanzees grooming, in which one discovers a blonde hair and says, "Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?"[127] The Jane Goodall Institute called the cartoon an "atrocity" in a letter drafted by its lawyers to Larson and his syndicate. Goodall, who was in Africa at the time, later found the cartoon amusing.[128]

She went on to name it her favourite depiction of herself in pop culture.[129] Larson offered profits from sales of a shirt featuring the cartoon to the Jane Goodall Institute.[130]

Goodall wrote the preface to The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy.[131] She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behaviour of humans and animals.

In 1988 Larson visited Goodall's research facility in Tanzania.[128] While there, he was attacked by a chimpanzee named Frodo.[127][132]

"Born in magic, the ancient city of Amdapor lived in splendor and died in agony." #ffxiv Khona'to's notes as he aided in the efforts to clear and clean the Lost City of Amdapor in the South Shroud 🌿✨
Different colored snippets of the Lost City of Amdapor (written in Eorzean above the gate on the top left). The iconic Amdapori curved arches are studied in a stone gate, the metal door of the gate, and a tower that leads further inside the city. There is a row of columns with circular patterns that are tilted and falling apart with text reading "It feels rare to see this type of motif."

Seed Seers Raya-O and A-ruhn both use their staves to conjure white magic to clear away the fungal debris. Above is a panel of a male Miqo'te wearing a gas mask of sorts, looking forward in determination. Text reads, "Our masks and garments are enchanted before we enter the Lost City to ensure the spores are not inhaled or grown over flesh. Upon exiting we must quarantine until a conjurer cleanses us. I grew tired of the wait so I learned the spell. Frankly, the others should too if capable. Raya-O and A-ruhn sweep around a full malm radius at a time when their schedules allow it."

The floor leading to the inner sanctum has a circular pattern with floral ornamentation. Text reads, "Circular stone platforms leadign to the inner preserved sanctum. Preserved by stasis and golems I assume."

The railing there is lit by a lantern lit by white light. Text reads, "Mhachi flames don't ring nearly as loud as white light. It took a while for me to tune it out the first time. Other Miqo'te struggled similarly."

Next to it is a wall archway with a golem that looks like a gargoyle voidsent demon. Text reads, "Same golem design as Amdapor Keep." Lastly on the bottom right is a far away view of a bridge that has long been decimated.
