Absolutely! I started out with a newborn. It was a struggle but we made it work. Almost twelve years later and with more time now that he needs me less there’s actually less work because of this trash.

I worked on our studio's first game over evenings and weekends with a two year old kid. I made it work. I know many people who have done the same. It can be done. Having kids not an excuse for making educational books with wrong information or games with terrible soulless art.

Yep. When I contacted both shops they said the woman behind it is “a one woman small business” trying to do this while raising her kids. Which creative isn’t a one person business facing struggles? To my knowledge those books are still on the shelves.

Oh I came across a gen AI made book this week claiming to help kids learn Irish. I only saw two pages and two glaring errors. A squirrel with 6 paws and the wrong translation for the word Seal. And two Irish design shops proudly promoting it!

Yep, I’ve heard “can we do it with AI” is popping up in almost every business now. They don’t care because it’s just creatives today but AI can do their jobs too and it will at this rate.

I’ve been illustrating full time for ten years and this has been the worst year of it. I’m looking at work outside the industry now. I’ve qualifications in graphic design and every one of those jobs I’ve seen listed are looking for people who can use AI. I can’t bring myself to do that.

The amount of working artists I've spoken to who are losing or have lost the ability to make a viable career out of it due largely to people's use of genAI instead of hiring artists is genuinely so upsetting. We won't know what we've lost until it's gone.
