WGAW Writers! Voting for BOD & Officers starts today (you’ll get an email from Votenet Solutions ~10am PT) and closes 9/23/25 @ 12pm PT. I’m running for re-election to the Board. If you missed Candidates Night last night, here’s a version of my speech (edited to fit BlueSky limit). In solidarity.

If this, uh, service doesn’t — in the words of a mentor who gave me my start with a freelance episode and then promotion from writers assistant to staff writer — “beat you to death with your own dream,” then it can’t be called “showrunner.” I don’t make the rules! The fucking audacity.

Celebrating a huge win today. In 2022, the @writersguildwest health plan added infertility benefits that, due to the need for a medical diagnosis, wound up being inaccessible to many LGBTQ+ and single WGAW members.
The first of three screenshots of an email from the Writers Guild of America West to members describing an expansion of access to the union’s infertility benefits to LGBTQ+ and single members, as well as the addition of some pre-surrogacy services. The second of three screenshots of an email from the Writers Guild of America West to members describing an expansion of access to the union’s infertility benefits to LGBTQ+ and single members, as well as the addition of some pre-surrogacy services. The last of three screenshots of an email from the Writers Guild of America West to members describing an expansion of access to the union’s infertility benefits to LGBTQ+ and single members, as well as the addition of some pre-surrogacy services.

Supposedly after pretending it was about money they're just openly talking in meetings about how they'll trash contracts and fire comedians for the absolutely unprescedented act of... making fun of the president on a late night talk show. Dictator shit.
While the studio audience – and many viewers - clearly agreed with the eloquent sentiment, the show’s bosses did not. Now it looks like Colbert may not even make it to the end of the series next year, as, according to journalist Rob Shuter, there have been words had with Colbert, and they have come “very close” to pulling him off-air. After reportedly calling a emergency meeting the morning after Cobert’s show aired, two senior executives reportedly said:

“He's daring us to fire him. And honestly? We’re close to doing it. He’s been warned. What he said was unacceptable. There are real consequences this time.”

Mostly off of social media these days (because this is the bad place), but somehow it’s WGAW election season again. Members, please read my platform at the link. It’s been an honor to serve this membership. I’d be thrilled if you would endorse me for reelection! elections.wga.org/2025/rob-for...

On July 2nd, Paramount agreed to settle a baseless lawsuit brought against 60 Minutes and CBS News by President Trump for $16 million. On July 15, during a regular show of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert went on-air and called the settlement a “big fat bribe” in exchange for a favorable decision on the proposed merger between Paramount and Skydance, a charge currently under investigation in California.Less than 48 hours later, on July 17, Paramount cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, a show currently performing first in its timeslot, giving vague references to the program’s “financial performance” as the only explanation. For ten years, the show has been one of the most successful, beloved and profitable programs on CBS, entertaining an audience of millions on late night television, on streaming services and across social media.

Given Paramount’s recent capitulation to President Trump in the CBS News lawsuit, the Writers Guild of America has significant concerns that The Late Show’s cancelation is a bribe, sacrificing free speech to curry favor with the Trump Administration as the company looks for merger approval.Cancelations are part of the business, but a corporation terminating a show in bad faith due to explicit or implicit political pressure is dangerous and unacceptable in a democratic society. Paramount’s decision comes against a backdrop of relentless attacks on a free press by President Trump, through lawsuits against CBS and ABC, threatened litigation of media organizations with critical coverage, and the unconscionable defunding of PBS and NPR.

The Writers Guild of America calls on New York State Attorney General Letitia James, no stranger to prosecuting Trump for illegal business practices, to join California and launch an investigation into potential wrongdoing at Paramount. We call on our elected leaders to hold those responsible to account, to demand answers about why this beloved program was canceled and to assure the public that Colbert and his writers were not censored due to their views or the whims of the President.
We call on our elected leaders to hold those responsible to account, to demand answers about why this beloved program was canceled and to assure the public that Colbert and his writers were not censored due to their views or the whims of the President.

In the meantime, the Writers Guild of America will support our members at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and across the late-night industry as they speak truth to power and we will explore all potential legal and political avenues to fight for our members in the aftermath of this decision.

Booking flights now requires me to select my gender, Male or Female, and honestly this travel app yelling at me to choose a gender makes me want to use he/they pronouns more - because I’ve been evaluating my gender identity (TBH, I feel he/him ~95% of the time), but also to say fuck you to this shit

This is exactly right. Also, during the Biden administration, the owners of the tech sector experienced the beginning of meaningful anti-monopoly regulations from the federal government. They went fascist to crack down on worker power and destroy regulations. Classic move!

Drove by the federal building in West Los Angeles… on a quiet, overcast Sunday morning… and there are still armed forces guarding it like it’s a FOB in a war zone. What a pathetic, fascistic waste of taxpayer dollars.

The clearly AI-powered dubbing on @wowpresentsplus.bsky.social’s newly released international Drag Races seasons (All Stars France and Brazil S2) would be terrible enough. But the app doesn’t give subscribers an option to choose the original language audio and subtitles! Don’t force this 💩 on us.

We've reached the point in our descent into fascism where the Jewish governor's house getting firebombed on Passover by a guy trying to bash his head in with a sledgehammer is overshadowed by the story of the President saying he wants to build foreign gulags for US citizens.

71% of Jews voted for Kamala Harris. Why? Because Jews can smell fascism a mile away & know that fascism never works out well for us. Trump’s administration includes straight up antisemites. They keep trying to elect antisemite Holocaust-deniers in Europe. 🧵

I don’t believe in gatekeeping or purity tests, but also if you generate AI slop in the style of Studio Ghibli, you clearly don’t understand or respect anything that Miyazaki was going for, and you should be barred from ever watching or referencing his works. He called AI “an insult to life itself.”
