You can't get anyone in political media to say it plainly, but GOP strategy for several decades now has been built around the fact that its core goals/policies are *wildly unpopular*. Everything depends on a) polluting the information environment, b) cementing unfair structural advantages, & c) $$$.

This Election: Red State Blues
Like many, I have been reading the back and forth about President Donald Trump’s campaign visit to the Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma. Most of the discussion in Indian Country is about the appropriateness of the Choctaw Event Center as a campaign site. Choctaw Nation Principal Chief Gary Batton released a statement saying he welcomes Trump to the reservation. “This is the third time we have had the honor of a sitting U.S. president coming to the Choctaw Nation, and we welcome President Trump,” Batton said. “We hope his visit provides an opportunity to learn more about what we do as a sovereign nation for our members and for all people in southeast Oklahoma.”
