White southerners were, too. Strom Thurmond parachuted into Normandy before D-Day. Robert "Tut" Patterson was a decorated paratrooper, wrote for Neo-Nazi outlets after the war, and then founded the White Citizens' Councils. Etc. Here's a page from my book with a cheeky section header.
