America, they are trying to desensitize you to violence. They want us to dehumanize one another so we become numb to their attacks on our liberty. They wish to normalize total state control thru visual terror. Attention is currency. Don’t invest it in evil. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Not saying anything especially novel here but I just keep thinking about how if one’s position is that AI can do STEM just fine on its own, then one’s position is that people are not needed. And then what? What’s the point? What’s the point of doing the STEM with anything? Capitalism is an uroburos

Today, I resigned as Vice Chair of the ODP Pride Caucus. The state party expects us to be a sales team, censoring our voices when we beg candidates not to trade on trans lives. I am still a Democrat, but I will not value party approval over true, defiant advocacy. Full text below. 👇
Part 1 of an open letter of resignation by Arienne Childrey, stepping down as Vice Chair and member of the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) Pride Caucus. She states that party leadership treats the caucus as a recruitment and sales team rather than a representative body. She cites an incident where the ODP censored and denied permission for the caucus to post a letter by two trans leaders addressing harmful comments made by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. The State Party Chair reportedly called the letter an "unwelcome distraction," which Childrey notes demonstrates how little party leadership values the voices and dignity of LGBTQ+ Democrats.
Since that decision, every Caucus plan, every potential post, and every path forward has been filtered through a lens of strict compliance and ODP approval. That may very well be the party's rule, but following those rules right now is a dereliction of our duty to the LGBTQ+ community.

For me, any rule that silences advocacy for the trans community during this time is an unjust rule, and I see no obligation to follow it. In alignment with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in his Letter from Birmingham Jail:

“One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.”

We are living in incredibly dangerous times for the trans community. We are in an era where the GOP has so thoroughly weaponized trans lives that even some formerly self-professing allies within our own party have fallen prey to the rhetoric. Looking at the national trend towards Democratic anti-trans triangulation, as well as our own internal conversations, it is clear to me that this shift is much more than a simple coincidence.

We have to speak up—loudly, strongly, and unapologetically—or I fear what our 2028 choices may look like. The ODP would like everyone to believe they are a "big tent" party. However, their successful efforts to silence even the Pride Caucus—even in cases where we are simply begging our candidates not to trade on our lives for perceived electoral advantage—has proven otherwise. The tent hasn't gotten any bigger; it has simply shifted, leaving many trans individuals, progressives, and allies out in the rain.

I will continue to advocate, organize, and fight for our community with everything I have. But I can no longer compromise my own moral principles by remaining part of a caucus that appears more interested in party approval than in true, defiant advocacy.

Sincerely,
Arienne Childrey

Do you think what you are doing makes it more or less likely someone will vote for your side? Because I have read a bunch of your replies and you seem like you’re here to just criticize and blame trans people. How did your demographic do in the 2024 election?

You do know that even though that gets discussed all the time, it isn’t the only way that trans people’s rights are being taken away- right? Talarico also talked about access to healthcare. Bills are being passed about access to bathrooms. State bills have been proposed about taking kids away.

But refusing to acknowledge the problem isn't the same as a tactical disagreement. I've seen too many centrist Dems sneering with hatred at trans people who are angry and scared to see some prominent Dems taking up anti-trans arguments. But why shouldn't trans people be angry about that?

You are asking trans people to vote for politicians who are denying their identity. It’s the candidates who should change, not the trans people. Why aren’t you engaging the candidates on this issue at all? Do you agree with them?

In Massachusetts, we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable and stand up for those who need it. We don’t throw trans kids under the bus for political points. We protect them—and all of our neighbors—because trans rights are human rights.

It is better in blue states, but it is getting worse everywhere and this moment requires some pushback by the party I expect to push back. Mt Sinai - in New York City! - is refusing to offer gender affirming care to kids.

Like, given the unpopularity of Republicans right now and the search for democratic candidates who will stand up for something, I would expect that someone would see the value in standing up for kids. But instead we hear nothing- *nothing* - from actual trans voices about this.

It is incredibly frustrating and disappointing for Democrats (!) to be saying this stuff about trans kids right now. Trump is incredibly unpopular and is throwing everything he can into transphobia. It’s a fantastic opportunity to change some people’s minds about this issue. But instead it’s this.

It is really important for Democratic candidates to come up with strong clear statements supporting trans folks. They should not be surprised by any questions about it and *gain nothing* by going after trans people.

This is such a great point. Democratic candidates throwing trans people under the bus will not get them votes from anyone on the right, left, or center. People on the right want R’s. People on the left are pissed. And this isn’t a real issue that matters to people in the middle.

I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling. They removed the report from the Wayback Machine and now I got a DMCA strike on my Google Drive for having it. It was deleted and removed from my account.
A screenshot of an email viewed in dark mode with the subject line "Google DMCA Violation." The email from Google informs the recipient that they have received a notification under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that some of their materials allegedly infringe on copyrights. It explains the removal process, mentions that notice details will be posted on Lumen, warns against repeated violations, and lists one affected Google Drive URL at the bottomA nearly identical mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. It shows a search for the same Amnesty International UK resources URL, resulting in the same message: "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine."A mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Wisconsin Democrats have done a fantastic job building up the state party since Scott Walker. We need to win in November, but I think we’re well positioned to do so. I think choosing to have a unity summit was a great way to bring the group together and make it more likely.
