Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 19hVery excited to get to help host a work function earlier this week where I actually got to put some of my a-level history studies to use - pictured with William IV the sailor King, and father of 10 illegitimate children. (Also monarch during great reform act of 1832). 020

Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Always nice to start a Saturday by run directing at @catfordparkrun.bsky.social - this mornings run directing duties branched out in an unexpected direction- I can now add removing a disembowelled rat from the course to my cv (happily spotted by the set up crew before any runners trod on it!) 170
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Double dose of culture in London. La femme infidele as part of the Chabrol season at the nft, followed by the Whistler exhibition at Tate Britain. Both excellent! Had not seen the chabrol before, and great to see on the big screen. Some of the whistler - especially the nocturnes- were magnificent 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Northampton half done- nice event apart from unexpected flight of stairs and a nasty uphill for the final mile! Legs didn't quite have enough summer training to push for a sub 90- only just outside in the end but pretty sure the course measured a bit short 040
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I do love a good ferry trip! Able to board when we arrived - 3 hours or so before departure, and installed with a cold pint of Heineken (ok, so the beer options could be better, but hey) watching the sunset! Returning to Harwich after a 9 day adventure (Zagreb, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Amsterdam) 020
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Another day, another excellent Prague brew. This amber ale was delicious - and followed a very refreshing Berlin style Weisse, and a Budvar summer ale, which was also pretty good. 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 03/09/2026It was amusing to discover- while visiting several second hand shops for daughter to peruse the clothes- that even in Prague approximately 50% of the cheap records ars by James Last. (Fewer Cliff Richard however). 030
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Charles Bridge at sunrise. Well worth the 5.40 alarm call! 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 02/09/2026Ah Prague, even more magnificent than I remembered. And the beer is still cheap, albeit I probably won't drink quite as much of it this time as I did in 1999! 130
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I had forgotten just how good czech dark beer was. Glorious. 1190
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 02/09/2026auf wiedersehen Wien! A fantastic couple of days exploring the Austrian capital for the first time. Superb art- Klimt and Brueghels particular highlights. Next stop Prague! 100
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 29/08/2026After a brief 28 hours in zagreb - in which I failed to see a collared flycatcher or middle spotted woodpecker, I'm now on the world's slowest train to Budapest. Here is the view of lake balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Europe. 140
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 22/08/2026A tale of 4 dusty old bottles- further bottles from my late uncle's cellar. Both whites were dark orange - the Monterey had evolved into something strangely between an old sherry with a bit of pudding wine on the nose. It wasn't exactly nice, but less sulphurous than the other. The Beaune was... 100
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Happy Friday cocktail! Paloma- a grapefruit/long take on a margarita - rather nice! Recipe courtesy of diffords in alt text 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 21/08/2026A pigeon living its best life in Lewisham market. 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Looks like something is on fire in Lewisham - not good 100
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Really gorgeous bottle of perfectly mature white burgundy - 2012 - still plenty of life in it but drinking beautifully. Rich, full, like a mouthful of sunshine, but with a really controlled, taut finished. Paired really well with several different pates. Magnificent! 130
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 15/08/2026I'd not heard of Muggsy Spanier before, but came across this in a Bristol charity shop. £1 well spent! Some great really early chiacago jazz 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Visiting Bristol for weekend so get to double up with second alert in Welsh. Exciting times. 110
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 08/08/2026A stop off in the Peak District to break the epic drive from Anglesey to south london. Got lost on a walk today, but the day slightly redeemed by a visit to Scarthin books (lovely selection of new and second hand) - and then a beautiful pint of bass at the Cromford Community Centre. 110
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 05/08/2026Roman ruins! Actually victorian brickworks that specialised in heat resistant bricks for steel making furnaces, which closed down in 1949. Now crumbling ruins overlooking the ocean. Interesting end to a good walk around the Anglesey coastal path. 120
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 05/08/2026@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social saw these magnificent sheep on a walk and immediately thought of you. 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Another day, another castle. Despite the lack of alarming warning signs (Beaumaris castle wins on that front), Penrhyn castle was much better than expected. Mock Norman, and constructed on profits from Jamaican sugar and Welsh slate - it lacks taste or real heart- and yet is spectacular. 120
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Great day of lighthouse visiting, neolithic standing stones, and an amazing burial chamber. Enjoyment enhanced by seeing my first choughs this year, and a glimpse of a passing peregrine falcon. 020
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 02/08/2026I 'enjoyed' this unsettling read - if that's quite the right word. The mundane detail, the futility, and the horror at discovering an identical shopping list in an old jacket. #WIT (as an aside, another excellent fitzcarraldo publication - I've yet to read a disappointing one) 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Cemaes bay before the dog walkers. Herons, egrets, curlew, ringed plover, oystercatcher, ravens (obligingly they croaked to confirm their identity- I'd assumed it was crows squabbling with sea gulls). 020
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Visited Llyn Idwal in Snowdonia today- simply stunning! Glad we decided to park in Bangor and bus in too - small car park but excellent sausage rolls. 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 30/07/2026So very sad to see the destruction on Dunwich Heath. I spent a couple of hours criss crossing the heath in 2024 before finally spotting my first dartford warbler. 041
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 27/07/2026Great to see couple of hundred sandwich terns at Cemlyn nature reserve. The noise and spectacle was incredible- apparently far higher numbers until the last couple of weeks. Also great white egret, curlew, ringed and golden plover and lots of seals. 110
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Enjoying the view in Anglesey! Cemaes Bay, with nuclear power station (in decommissioning) to left of picture. 240
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Having a miserable time on holiday... a pint of brains with a sea view! Long drive from South East London to Anglesey - but the stretch through Snowdonia was spectacular- very glad I eschewed motorway in favour of picturesque a-roads! 130
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Last day of work before a much needed coastal break in north Wales- and the day has begun well - skip diving for a pile of Bob Dylan cds (plus a few others). 100
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 19/07/2026At least the half time 'entertainment' puts the dull first half in some context. 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 18/07/2026It's actually feeling a little cool sat outside this evening. Nice. 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Accidental natural wine purchase turned out well! Gorgeous white burguny - slightly cloudy, and a hint of funk, but this really (or rully?!) worked and helped balance out the richness. Beautiful match with both duck and mushroom pate! 130
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 18/07/2026What a spectacular run by Josh Kerr. Live sport can sometimes deliver truly incredible theatre. Wow! 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Excellent day enjoying shaded avenues of Hampstead, Hampstead Heath, and Highgate cemetery. Very good guided tour of the cemetery 020
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 10/07/2026The temperature has dropped a couple of degrees and I now feel like cooking! Butterflied leg of lamb on the barbecue, a couple of bottles chilling. And I'm not sweating. Happy days 220
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Feel like my goals for the day have been achieved- indoor temperature now 3 degrees lower than it was at 6am thanks to mass door and window opening. Soon time to shut all the windows and blinds again. Dreaming of autumn... 130
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 06/07/2026What an astonishing game of football. So nervous hanging on at the end. Prospects of sleep seem limited! 010
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 05/07/2026Today's record haul from the Catford charity shops! Rich pickings! 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 04/07/2026There are few things that deliver more joy to this cricket fan than beating surrey, with their pots of gold. Great performance by Gloucestershire! 021
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 29/06/2026#nowplaying This is great - not heard Clifford Brown before-he is so good. Died aged 25 in a car accident- what a terrible loss- and what a great lp. 000
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 27/06/2026Very much enjoying reading this - and making the most of it being an acceptable temperature outside in the garden (for now). At least it's a mere amber warning today - and cooler temperatures tomorrow... 020
Rob Harvey @robharvey99.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Tidying up the remains of my late uncle's cellar has sadly meant a lot of totally shot wines going down the drain, but its always exciting when one is unexpectedly intact. The deep gold colour points to oxidation, but this was rich and lovely - v much intact at 19 years old, and a real treat! 330
