I’ve spent a decent amount of time over the last nine months experimenting with LLMs and seeing how to use them in my work. The last 2 months they’ve definitely improved a lot, but I’m still amazed at how they can be simultaneously creative/useful/efficient and being fatally flawed and wrong.

Given all the recent buzz about how great ChatGPT has gotten, including its prowess with images, I figured I'd check in on its anatomical skills. Nope.
A ChatGPT diagram of a skull with some weird labels. The lower jaw is both the mandible and the occipital bone. Also, the nasal cavity is between two teeth!

@therestpolitics.bsky.social as a Brit in the US, I very much enjoy Leading and the Rest is Politics and thought the interview with Michael Gove very entertaining. I was interested in Rory’s line of attack re Gove’s stance on Israel, focusing, in part, on how much time he’s spent in Gaza etc.

Let’s take a look at the whole “there are too many black people on TV” thing, shall we? After Pochin claimed Black people in TV adverts “made her mad”, all her supporters tried to use 👇🏼 as their excuse for why she was somehow justified in her overt racism. Spoiler - she isn’t! 🤨 🧵 1/22

Many grant proposals are submitted against a background of 'ticking clocks' (i.e. contracts or studentships coming to an end). These aren't new calls – they're ones that people may well have already submitted 100+ page applications for. Even delays could prove extremely damaging to early careers...

Public health, policy, and clinical interventions to improve perinatal care for migrant women and infants in high-income countries: a systematic review
The findings suggest that multicomponent interventions comprising multidisciplinary teams, in-person interpreting, maternal education, and social welfare support can improve perinatal outcomes for migrant women and their infants. Removing financial barriers to care may improve perinatal outcomes and be cost saving to healthcare systems. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution given that most included studies were of poor quality and that sensitivity analysis restricting to interventional studies only did not demonstrate any effect on the main outcomes of interest.
