Really don’t like when I’m in an atmospherically creepy place, finally come upon someone who seems normal, then they cock their head to an unnatural angle. So annoying!

So there’s Dwight MacDonald’s masscult and midcult, but watching some BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS has me wondering about the long dead monocult. Only three networks then! You vaguely had heard of most of these people even if you hadn’t seen their shows. Limited grids of major TV time.

Looking back, I was 12 when it came out and am surprised. I remember thinking it kind of funny, but my awfully permissive parents had me watching saddles, frankenstein, your show reruns and whatnot earlier and even a couple years later eh.
