RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 15/09/2026They're not going to donate, and they're not going to try and get their friends to vote with them. You need on-the-ground infrastructure to win and you need to positively promise something in order to get that. There's a reason people go to bat for Mamdani and not Newsom. 0150
RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Crucially I think that you're conflating "support" and "voting for". You can absolutely hector people into voting with you by framing it as a utilitarian "lesser of two evils" decision but that doesn't turn those people into supporters. They aren't going to knock on doors, they ... 2160
RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 15/09/2026"The Lighthouse" is absolutely my favorite slow-burn psychological one though! It stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers who are driven insane by isolation. It's all black and white and the cinematography is gorgeous! 010
RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 15/09/2026"The Void" is my favorite lovecraftian horror movie, and it has some really good practical effects! If you want something more trippy and weird, "Mad God" is a stop motion/mixed media horror thing made over decades by Phil Tippett, one of the legends of Hollywood VFX! 100

RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I think A.K.I. is a genuinely good newcomer, but none of the others feel cartoon-y enough to stand next to Dhalsim, Blanka, and the other weirdos. Being a Street Fighter requires largeness of heart. 000

RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Not doing this to naysay, but rather as a trans person who has to reckon with the ongoing popularity of HP. I think there's value in being descriptive about what people liked rather than prescriptive about what they should, otherwise you'll come to weird conclusions about why things are how they are 040
RipDotMe @ripdotme.bsky.social · 20/07/2026I agree that the books and films have a whole bunch of fundamental problems, but it's also clear to me that there is some sort of ineffable juice that makes them more popular than other higher quality series.
